I was just thinking this morning how it's time for some bump pics, so you guys must be psychic :) I'm due my next photo on Sunday so will get one up then.

I've been reading my hypnobirthing book. It's really interesting. The idea behind birthing is everything that I've always said. But I don't think I'd have the strength to stick by my guns and do what the book says rather than what the midwife says (especially the part about breathing instead of pushing at the end). I also think the book is helping me to be open about the labour and to not plan and go with the flow. I really want a water birth, but I think only now I realise that as much as I want it now, I might not want to use it at the time. So that's all good :) I'm not sure how good I'll be at taking time to practice the relaxation techniques though.

I've been looking at reusable nappies again. I really want the bumgenius all in ones. I'm trying to hold off though until I've tried the nappy trial and tried the different types.

Ooo, that reminds me, I got my £30 RNfL nappy voucher yesterday- not quite sure how it made it to me considering how badly they'd messed up my address, but now I can go to one of the "nappy and natter" coffee mornings... very exciting!

It also depends if you have an anterior placenta or a posterior one - with an anterior, there's more cushioning between your tummy and the baby so it won't be as obvious as early

On the notes from my 20 week scan it says "Placenta: Anterior but not low" it looked in my scan picture like it may have been at the top as there was a dark shadow there which I think may have been the placenta.

so I've been quite suprised that I can feel bubs so much as was expecting to not be able to feel much at all. I did wonder if it would make it harder for OH to feel movements from the outside though as he has to feel them through both the placenta and all my extra padding :p

Sarahangel, I'm so sorry I made you talk of such painful memories. That too wasn't my intention. Glad all was ok wit DD-she was a good weight considering 38 weeks and IUGR. I'm glad that all is ok with you this time too so far with medication. You are still having doppler regularly I take it.
Yes, I am being monitored closely, still scares me though as my DS was affected by combination of prematurety and IUGR. He had a very tough first two yrs and has cerebral palsy. I think I need to just relax a bit more, cant be doing baby any harm with this stressing.
    Thanks again xxx

both babies for me the m/w has got me to "pant" the head out rather than pushing. Reduces the chance of tears I think.

I'll answer both these questions together.
They never picked up on the IUGR with my first 2 pregnancies and unfortunately I lost both of them, first one at 28+4 (he was 24 week size) and then again it was found at my 20 week scan that I lost my second (he was 16 week size). Only after this I was investigated but I had to fight to get it done because I had only lost 2!
Anyway, it was found that while I'm pregnant I suffer from Factor 5 Leiden and was told to take aspirin in my next pregnancy which I did and I had my DD at 38 weeks weighing 6lb 3.5oz's but the blood flow was always described as "sluggish" and was on bed rest from 34 weeks with constant trips too and from the hospital to keep an eye on the blood flow with a view to evict if things got any worse.

I lost a fourth pregnancy at 10 weeks as that one wasn't thriving so this time the plan was for me to go on Clexane (anticoagulant) and aspirin from positive preg test until 6 weeks after birth and with very close monitoring and so far the plan seems to be working.

I'm sure Lwcus, they are monitoring you very closely. Fingers crossed your blood continues to flow through your placenta for a while longer yet.

Sorry if my post has upset or scared anyone, this wasn't my intention at all.

I wonder if this is what they may suspect I had with DD, she was born at 42+1 and weighed a little over 5lb the placenta was examined after the birth and was recorded as "degraded".
I am under a consultant as high risk and get a scan every 2/3 week (her holidays permitting) but I've been told this is due to her being so small no conditions or extra info given despite me asking.
I have a scan on Tuesday so I'm going to mention this IUGR

  • Hi lwcus I do feel very fortunate with DD, I don't always think it when she's a madam though!
I'm having fortnightly dopplers currently with a view of doing them more regularly if required.
Don't worry, I'm fine with talking about it now. I know how hard it is to relax, I've been a wreck on and off through this pregnancy!

Fingers crossed that you get some good news next time you get checked, would you let me know how you get on?
