Lillian - good luck! Hope everything goes well x

Lotty - I have ordered that pushchair too, picking it up saturday. One of my best friends has the same one and she really likes it.

Bit worried about my Anti D injection now, don't want pain!

Also where did all the people behind me appear from? Felt like I was near the bottom for ages! Hi to all the newbies!

good luck to all the labouring ladies, please don'ty scream like that woman last night, i was embarrassed on her behalf!!!

    ok opinions please

i have an opportunity to buy an ex display nursery set for 500 quid. normally just the cot bed alone would cost this. OH is absolutely in love with the cot bed, and wants to go for it but i keep thinking we weren't intending to spend more than 200 on a cot and mattress and was gonna get the rest of the nursery furniture at boot sales. it includes, a cot bed, cot top changer, dresser and wardrobe. really swanky solid oak furniture.......

    thanks

    Afternoon everyone!

Very exciting to hear that someone will be having their baby today!

I just read in the information section of the pregnancy notes folder that for the first 6 months you're only supposed to give your baby milk and no other food or drink unless otherwise advised. Surely that can't be right? Just that my family keep saying it must be the norm here in England because back in Portugal you give your baby water as well and some people give their babies juice and stuff too. I'm just a little confused :/

Hi Pixiepops - yep that is correct, however it depends...if breatsfeeding then nope they don't need anything else till they wean as breastmilk has foremilk (that is like water) and hindmilk (which is thicker). But if formula feeding then generally and especially in hot weather yes you'd give cooled boiled water maybe once a day. And then when they reach about 4 months you can give small amounts of flavoured water or juices (the special baby ones) but as long as they are still getting their quota of milk feeds. HTH! x

That advice is what they give for breast-fed babies, yes. I think in hot weather - and therefore, I assume more commonly in Portugal - formula fed babies can be given water (boiled and cooled) if needed, but there is no need for them to have juice (some people give it, diluted, if the baby is constipated, but not for its nutritional value)
  • Hi Ladies and Bumps,

How did I get fifth from top or third if you don't include the bold ladies!!! And yes I stupidly watched OBEM and am now even more worried - I kept wanting to turn it off but just couldn't and I think DH is scared now as well though he tried to deny it!! That woman screeching so much can't be normal can it? And I agree any poor Mummies-to-Be (or Daddies-to-Be) having to listen to her must have been freaked out!!

Labour Vibes to all those who (still!!) want them...

lizbob it's difficult to decide especially when it seems like a good deal. I had a nightmare picking nursery furniture for similar reasons.

We spent a little more than we'd planned on the basis that we'll probably have a second baby and the furniture would be useful for both, as well as the chest of drawers being suitable for the future not just when they are babies.

I would have a think about whether it is worth it, whether you can fit everything in (with space for toys etc) whether it will be used for a number of years or just while baby is little and things like that. I went off the matching cot top changer because would have had to use a mat with it, got a padded one that is more all in one instead and I reckon that will be easier.

If matress is not included that will be additional cost, is it still affordable? Is there anything you would prefer to do with the money if you stuck to your original plan? I have seen some really good priced stuff on ebay so suspect the set is prob around £200 more than you'd originally planned on spending...
  • Sharkey/lotty - I'm thinking of getting the Silvercross jet pram frpm Mothercare too too - is it fairly light and easy to push? - I had a Maclaren Twin Techo before but I had 2 under 2 at the time (must have been mad)

Can anyone recommend a pram for a short small person? :o - was also looking at Bugaboo Bee
