Dusty - I hear you on the money worry front. I'm self employed and don't currently pay national Insurance 2 contributions so i'm entitled to sweet fa. Luckily I work from home and my bosses have been ace so i'm hoping I can still reply to e-mails etc after a couple of weeks and earn a few pennies that way. It'll be tight though. Need my insurance claim to come through (due in before End of Dec) to give me some flexibility. I'm crossing everything I have that my accident (I was off work for a year and a half!!!  ) payoff is going to happen so I can relax. But i'll have multiple problems with my back because of the accident so this pregnancy is causing chaos with it!
It never rains but it pours!!!Beautiful Baby Boy born 28 April 20110 -
Oh Charlie that sounds awful, must have been a horrific accident to be off all that time. Fingers crossed the money comes through soon then?
I'm more worried as I just have no idea what babies cost on a weekly basis and I loathe having to go and ask OH for money every week, we have a joint account for bills but other than that we have our own money. He earns far more than me and pays for our holidays, nights out etc.
I was going to ask him to put a certain amount in the joint account every week for baby which he seems happy to do but I have no idea how much?
Does anyone already a parent have any idea how much extra money we'll be needing each week?
I don't even know, what, if any, benefits we'll be entitled to, I'm rubbish at this sort of stuff.0 -

Sammy, i should of said i was pregnant when i just called the docs. My appointment is 29th November.
Its not that urgent but i'd rather not wait 2 weeks.0 -
Morning all.
Sammy good luck at the Dr's. I went through a crusty nipple stage a while back and it was sooo sore. I made the mistake of trying to pick some of the crusty bits off, and nearly hit the roof  I''ve found that Bio Oil has helped, I use it every morning on my bump and also my bbs and no crustiness since :j
Oxo - I emailed OH about the hospital bag situation this morning! I think that at 32 weeks I should really get it organised as you never know what might happen! So we're going to try and make a start on it this w/e, along with getting the nursery finished and buying the last few bits and pieces we need..no pressure then! :rotfl:
Dusty - yes I am worrying about money too, particularly as OH has a fair amount of debt which we are desperately trying to work down prior to me leaving work (3 and a half weeks from now ). My company only pay the basic SMP too, so we need to get on top of it asap. The fact that his debt is a hangover from his first marriage to his hideous, money-grabbing ex-wife causes me some pain when I'm having to pay off the majority of the debts myself as I am more solvent than him. However we are going to need every penny he earns so it has to be done...grumble...
OH rang me just now as has the opportunity to do some overtime this Sunday. A bit of a pain as I want us to get the nursery finished and this w/e is our last clear one before Xmas, but for 4 hours work, he'll effectively get a full days extra pay, so it would be silly to turn it down.
Fanta - sorry to hear about your nasty problem. Hope it clears up soon.Metranil dreams of becoming a neon,You don't even take him seriously,How am I going to get to heaven?,When I'm just balanced so precariously..0 -

I'll live! I still have my health (ish) and my kids and bubba on the way. Life ain't all that bad!
You forget over time how much kids cost per week but if you break it down into items. You'll need:
Formula if not b/feeding
nappies
Wipes if required
Nappy cream
Cotton balls
Baby bath stuff
Steralising tablets - if using a cold water steraliser
This is why i'm stocking up now. Things like cream, wipes and baby shampoo are available on bogoffs and such so i'll just buy in bulk. Never thought there was anything wrong with boots home brand nappies so i'll try them again.
Stock up on the longer lasting stuff so that it then just needs topping up occasionally. Perhaps when you do your once a month shop you can get one item after baby is born.
I don't think you'll need much else to be honest. It's when they are older and want to come to the shop with you and you were only gonna spend £2 but ended up spending £10 that is costly!Beautiful Baby Boy born 28 April 20110 -

To be honest it depends how you shop if that makes any sense. Also depends if BF goes smoothly.
I buy nappies in the Asda baby event so its £20 for 120 nappies which lasts us about 20 days(ish). BF of course is free and very MSE but Formula is about £8 a tub and really depends how hungry your LO is my DD would get through almost 3 tins a week at one point. Baby wipes on an average I would say we go through 3 packs a week unless DD decides to empty a brand new pack into the back of the car/living room lol. So on average about £30 a week, now that DD is weaned she has small portions of what we eat and is alot cheaper as she isnt on formula. (I found it quite amusing that we spent £30 a week on DD as me and OH spend £30 a week for the both of us on all our food an toiletries). But these will vary from baby to baby, and as I said also depends how MSE you are, if you use costco/macro and if you bulk buy in advance etc.
The CAB should be able to tell you what benefits you would be entitled to, or entitledto.co.uk may ne able to help.

Having a bit of a melt down at the mo and have just told DH to go F himself on the phone which normally isn't like me
It's all about ...you guessed it money (again!)
He paid a cheque for some wood he got from his work (he got it in Summer!) and I totally forgot about it. He paid the cheque last Tuesday and it still hasn't cleared and I paid a cheque into nursery for photos which were taken. Have just rememered about his cheque and realised there is not enough money in account to pay for both cheques (that's why cheques should be totally done away with, they take so long to clear )
I am ALWAYS left to deal with the accounts which generally I don't mind but I do forget about some things and he just assumed there was money in the account to cover them. It then occured to me that one of the cheques will bounce (and I don't want it to be the nursery one I would be so mortified), so I phoned him in a major panic saying Oh no one of the cheques are going to bounce, and he was like, well what to do you want me to do about it!!!
I asked if he could phone his Mum to see if she could pay money into the account until I get paid on Friday and he said "can you not ask her" this is the point I told him to go F himself and I would sort it out as per usual!
Have asked Sister to put money in but she is always helping us out and I felt awful but by this point I was in tears.:o......
And breathe! Sorry guys I really needed to get that off my chest. sis has siad there is no problem (it's only £25 but that's not the point) so hopefully we will be ok.
DD has just asked me to not cry anymore, poor wee toots. I just went into complete panic mode. Trying to calm down now.:o
"That's no reason to cry. One cries because one is sad. For example, I cry because others are stupid, and that makes me sad."0 -
Catching up so excuse me if I miss anyone/anything out
Congratulations to all the new mummies Pukka, Emsy, Plymouth and to anyone I’ve missed making an announcement
Lovely scan picture Wendz It is really clearCongratulations on team pink too!
Good luck today TigTag I hope the induction goes well for you – soon be getting those well deserved mummy cuddles
Teenie a friend of mine has hired her Elle TENS machine from http://www.birthease.co.uk/index.shtml she paid £23 for six weeks hire I thinkI definitely think I am going to try and use one for the early stages of labour until I can’t take it anymore as have read so many people who said if you use them early enough they really do help.
Ouch Fanta that sounds awful – as the others have said just try to keep it as clean as possible, maybe a hot flannel with draw out any gunk and try to bathe regularly as the advice you read says. If no improvement in a couple of days maybe a trip to the doctor would be in order. Hope it sorts itself out for you
Krystal – I ALWAYS have a craving for sponge cake with jam and buttercream filling…….it’s not a pregnancy thing I just like Victoria sponge cake
I’m not sleeping too well at the moment. I can’t get comfy and keep tossing and turning all night. Hoped for a better night last night and then got woken up three times with a really bad cramp in my left leg as a result I am feeling pretty tired
My bump is growing at a nice steady pace now – I still get a bit freaked out to think there is actually a baby in there when I feel how my skin is stretching at the sides I love feeling bubs moving about a lot more now though makes me smile every time it happens.
Other than that we are buying little bits and bobs as we see them. Got a really nice playmat / baby gym at the car boot for £3 on Sunday so that’s another thing ticked off the list
Dusty I am a little worried about money, OH says we will be able to cover all the bills but I know it is going to be a huge shock not only to us as a family but also to my system as I have always been independent and used to bringing my own money in. I’m not liking the thought that I will be wageless first the first time since I was about 15 I must admit
Hugs to anyone who needs them - hope you and your bumps are all ok today.
One day Rodney we'll be millionaires£2020 in 2020 - Running Total £170
