ETA - fab news that it went well btw - sorry, I didn't even say that, just posted my answer and ran!Aw fab news Digital, glad all is ok. I'd like to see the photo.
ThanksI'm going to try and add a boy symbol by my name now.
My placenta was posterior at my 12 week scan, but is anterior now. Funny how it can change position.
I was thinking of getting a 3D scan. They usually do them at our hospital, but there's a notice saying they can't at the moment due to staff shortages. I bet the detail is fab!
It's amazing how clinical these NHS scans are. A checklist to tick everything is present and correct, a blurry scan pic, the sex if you want to know, then sent on your way :rotfl: Still I am just glad that everything was OK, I am such a worrier. It's special to us as it's our baby but just every day sort of stuff to them I guess!0 -
Regarding cord clamping/cutting - I've just been reading about placental delivery, and it says that a natural third stage is not recommended if you have had any complications of pregnancy such as a low-lying placenta. Mine was but isn't any more - so what does that mean? Is the main advantage of natural delivery the fact that baby gets more oxygenated blood? What are the other advantages?
Also, I was reading about syntometrine vs oxytocin to make the placenta deliver - can I specify oxytocin or will that be what I get as standard if my hospital have it? And when it says "the injection causes the uterus to contract strongly" - how much will this hurt?!My debt free diary | Post Office loan: £2131 1429.38 | Barclaycard: £4429 1988.12 | Paypal Credit £322.71 574.91 | Monzo Flex £169.03 |

Definitely, was saying to OH that I feel like the midwives become jaded and forget how special a time this is for you. Yeah exactly. I am glad this sonographer didn't prod me as hard as the last one though :rotfl:0 -
Yes, sonographer. Not radiographer. Ha. Baby brain x

Can I ask who is all having a homebirth? And what has been the deciding factor in having it or not having one?
*Waves*
Me - mainly because DS was a straightforward birth, and my labour was fast. There didn't seem any point in my being in hospital after he was born, as all the midwives were too busy to help us, so we would have been more comfortable at home anyway.
I am a bit worried about how long it might take to get to the hospital if the traffic is bad - the road is notorious and there are roadworks on it for the next 3 months.
And I am looking forward to being cuddled up in my own bed with my family, and nice tea and homemade bread toast with proper butter for afterwards. That's the most-planned part so far!0 -
Thanks for the link Susan.
Chakani that sounds perfect. Especially all of you in bed.:santa2::xmastree::santa2:0 -
My reasons for choosing home birth are:
No fuss or worry about transfering to the hospital
More in control of surroundings & who's there
Likely to get more experienced midwife who is solely looking out for you
Less likelihood of rushing into unnecessary interventions
We can all get straight into our own bed afterwards
I'm 41 and this is my first baby, but all of my midwives have been fully supportive of my choice. We Made-it-3 on 28/01/11 with birth of our gorgeous DD.0
