I'm 41 and this is my first baby, but all of my midwives have been fully supportive of my choice.

That's good to hear, supportive midwives are worth their weight in gold. I'm 40 & whilst I can't have a home birth it's not because of my age.

Can I ask who is all having a homebirth? And what has been the deciding factor in having it or not having one?
I wanted one but have been talked out of it.

My reasons for not having one are:
    * Too nervous a hubby. He's really not comfortable with the whole idea.
    * Mum lost her first baby, so midwives have advised hospital more for peace of mind.
    * Supposedly 40% of first time home births end up in hospital anyway, so given the above this swayed me a little for not having one.
    * The midwives have PROMISED me that if there are no complications then I can be out of hospital within 6 hours of giving birth, maybe sooner. I will kick up a fuss if they don't stick to this promise as it's the main thing that made me agree to hospital.

But assuming this birth goes OK and I get preggers again I am absolutely having a homebirth for my second child. OH will know what to expect and hopefully be less afraid of the prospect.

@Lilian - I had the Placenta delivery dilemma last week :) It came up at our waterbirth class. We're allowed to deliver the placenta in the pool if we go natural. But if you have a managed delivery of the placenta it has to be on dry land. I spent quite a lot of time looking into the pros/cons and I've decided to ask if I can go for natural (deliver placenta naturally before cutting cord) with the option of changing my mind if it takes longer than I have the patience for :o

Who was it that did the demi style photos recently? You inspired me to do some :o Me and OH had some fun last night. I think I look awful in colour, but making them black and white looks a bit better. They are for mine and OH's eyes only though :)

Dont worry Teenie it hasnt sunk in with me yet either, and it wont until bubs is born.
Im just panicking about getting out in the mornings. DD is 5 and pretty self sufficient but DS is 3 and a lazy wee poo. He can do it all but either takes ages with me constantly moaning at him or I end up doing it myself. Add to that a small baby, very tired mum etc.
The baby will be popped in a all in one snow suit thingy until im more organised and out in his/her jammies.

After I panic about that i forget im pregnant again until I cant myself in the mirror. TBH I have no idea how im going to cope with 3.

lol that sounds familiar. DS will be (counts on her fingers) 30 months old (2yr 6 months) and I refuse to not send him to the child minders just cause i am now at home with a baby. I want him to keep the routine.
He only goes on a friday so thats not tooo bad so am gonna make an agreement to take him for 8.30 (instead of the current 8am) get baby up, fed, in his bouncer etc then sort DS out (must be more organisd and get his lunch and changing bag ready day before) get DS1 up and dressed, banana for brekkie. bung DS2 in his snowsuit and head out the door. hubby will do the run for first 2 weeks and hopefully a bit longer but if not will be me from week 3.

PLEASEEEEEEEEEE let DS1 be quicker at walking or enjoying his buggy board as I will NOT be purchasing a double buggy!!

ohhh and then home via the bacon sandwich shop for a tired hungry mummy.

Congrats on team blue digital! :D

Im having a hospital birth, but because im high risk. The MW has said the reason im seeing the consultant is because of my high BMI not because of Lilys weight at birth.

Also we have very thin walls, so i wouldn't have a home birth even if i could. Although it would be a good revenge for the boy next door and his music, mwahahah.

    Bump pic, 18wks.

Still more belly than bump, my jeans just shape it nicely :rotfl:

High BMI?? I'm not just trying to be kind, you really don't look it from that photo.

  • Hehe there does seem to be a lot of us on team blue who were on less than 12 weeks at the same time :) I'm very happy as wanted my eldest to be a boy. If I decide to put myself through this again :rotfl:I'd love a girl as a second, then would stop there. Don't know what we'd do if we had another boy, but would probably stop there as well. I am an only child, and would love to give my boy a brother or sister, but will have to see how this labour thing goes really :rotfl: He hasn't given me an easy ride so far what with 24/7 sickness (easing a bit, but still there) and tiredness, plus sciatica. Haha, it will all be worth it once I hold him in my arms though :D

EA - lovely pic, and I agree with PC, you look good :) I haven't got as big a bump as you yet, but getting there.

Regarding the home birth thing, I like the idea but realistically would prefer the on hand medical help available at the hospital, plus our house now (if we are unfortunate enough to still be living here when baby arrives) is far too small for a pool. I think it would gross OH out a little as well, and the cats would be hard to keep out the way :rotfl:

Hello nic - I am having a homebirth had one with ds1 and it was fine I have my own water pool so just need to buy a new liner for it :)

I am much more relaxed at home and at least lo can play upstairs with mil and met new baby as soon as its here!

oh and last time I got to have 3 midwifes @ my home and I feel that is next to impossible with a hospital birth........thats why I choose my home its all very personal and their not disappearing every 5 mins to se to someone else

Everyone is different and feels differently personally I wouldnt be able to relax in a hospital but I know some people who prefer to be around all the tools and drugs should they need them. I just prefer being able to get up ad make a cup of tea in me own house :P

I also like that afterwards your already in your own house with your own things and all the visitors you want (or dont want lol) can pop in whenever suits you :)

Havent had a chance to read through any other posts yet peeps so hope everyone is ok and ill mooch back in a bit it seems its been pretty busy on here today! :)
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it.

Sorry just to make this clear as I don't want people mis-interpreting. I meant 40% of First Time Pregnant ladies who have a home birth end up in hospital.
