Welcome Salski, fab weight loss!
I toyed with a homebirth this time but DH isn't keen and I have no problems going back to the same hospital to give birth. Nic it sounds like it would be good for. My Mum had 2 homebirths and she said they were the best. At least you don't have to decide just yet."That's no reason to cry. One cries because one is sad. For example, I cry because others are stupid, and that makes me sad."0 -
Thank you all for your warm welcome and advice! I have no idea about anything money related and to be fair - only started budgeting in September.
I am having a baby Girl and we are hoping to name her Elsie. Scary stuff! But we have bought everything we think we will need and all of it is second hand or knitted - car seat, pram, bedroom furniture etc...all ebay or friends!
Thank you again ladies - I shall be keeping an eye on this thread with interest

Hello ladies
I'm back from my scan, had lunch etc, so thought I'd update you all
I'm on team blue - we're having a boy! :j No huge surprise as I had feelings I was having a boy, but still a shock to have it confirmed. Well, she said no guarantees, but pointed out the 'boy bits' in between his legs, so pretty clear
He is all OK, everything present and correct. I had a funny turn after the scan as got up too quickly, suddenly felt really sick, hot and dizzy. OK now though. Sonographer said it's common in pregnancy, and due to a compressed nerve due to me laying flat. However I had this once before in a shop, and I wasn't laying flat then :rotfl:
Baby was very cute and facing us, laying on his side. Had his fingers in his mouth, looked so sweet. Could see his eyes/retinas as well. Two big feet like his daddyThe photo is pretty carp, but will post it later if anyone is interested. Amazing how clear the spine is now, and baby has changed so much since the 12 week scan.
Had a list of boy/girl names, so can narrow things down a bit now and get a short list. Then maybe decide on the final name once baby is here and we can see which name suits him best. Can't believe I'm going to have a son, makes it all seem so much more real, and really glad we found out
I am thinking of booking a private scan for 30 something weeks. Any feedback on these?
Sunday should be fun as we're going to look at travel systems and cots and stuff at Mothercare and Mamas and Papas. Had a look in Mothercare last weekend when we visited my Mum, and quite liked the Quinny Buzz, but quite expensive for what you get as I want the pram bit as well. Hmm. Oh and got to get a blue outfit as well :rotfl:0 -
Can I ask who is all having a homebirth? And what has been the deciding factor in having it or not having one?
Home birth here! The major factor was I point blankly refuse to set foot in hospital to deliver. In 2 previous births I was generally treated like S**T, talked over, strapped to a bed and ignored. Took 2 hours of begging for gas and air as i had been left with a MCA (maternity care assistant) who wasn't allowed to turn it on for me. the aftercare was even worse.
well if they are going to ignore me this time i'd rather be at home, plus OH hates hospitals with a passion, gets fidgety and annoying after 30 mins. Childcare would be a nightmare to arrange, not impossible but one less thing i would rather not deal with0 -

I had an NHS scan at 32 weeks because of my placenta - it was amazing to see so much detail but didn't really tell me anything I didn't already know (that there's a baby in there...!). She wasn't looking out for any abnormalities or anything like that.
ETA - fab news that it went well btw - sorry, I didn't even say that, just posted my answer and ran!My debt free diary | Post Office loan: £2131 1429.38 | Barclaycard: £4429 1988.12 | Paypal Credit £322.71 574.91 | Monzo Flex £169.03 |

Aw fab news Digital, glad all is ok. I'd like to see the photo.
Lauren that sounds awful! No wonder you don't want to go back to hospital!"That's no reason to cry. One cries because one is sad. For example, I cry because others are stupid, and that makes me sad."0 -
As I said my main reason is not having childcare as we have moved somewhere that I know no one..
...
I know OH will go with what I really want but I want him to feel comfortable with it. How is your OH about it?gratefulforhelp wrote: »nic homebirths - I agree with all susan said except they didn't ignore my birth plan, because to ignore it you would presumably have to have read it!!Any question, comment or opinion is not intended to be criticism of anyone else.2 Samuel 12:23 Romans 8:28 Psalm 30:5

Thanks Susan, they are fab reasons and I will show my oh later.
I stayed at home until the last minute with DS and went in at 10cm dialated so I know I was more relaxed at home. I also know I can do it with minimum pain relief ( I LOVE gas and Air and the TENS worked great with DD)
Im not bothered about a water birth but I like pacing so pacing in my own livingroom would also make me relaxed.
As I said my main reason is not having childcare as we have moved somewhere that I know no one..
I dont want the kids to see anything though. Luckily we have a long house so they should be well away form us. I could make up birth packs for them to do in their room. Or they could be at school or in bed, who knows.
Im happy that the midwives here do loads of homebirths as it is a bit more rural. They also reckoned an ambulance could get to the nearest hospital in 25 mins if need be. I live across from an ambulance depot. I need to let them know what ive decided by 34 weeks.

Mine was fine, he had a gin and tonic (or two!)Really!!! Never would have guessed!Only joking hun that wasn't meant to be mean but you do come across as a woman who knows (and usually gets) what she wants!

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:I resemble that remark!!well if they are going to ignore me this time i'd rather be at home,
And of course its much harder for them to ignore you as litigation threats echo in their minds. Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x0
