I can hardly remember the placenta delivery with both babies as i was too busy cuddling and kissing the baby. The midwives basically got on with things, gave me the injection as baby was actually being born. After trying to get the baby to latch on and the midwife massaging my tummy she told me to push with a small contraction and it did sort of flump out. There was no real fuss over it.
By this point I was relieved for it all to be over and to be holding the baby, the placenta was a small thing happening in the background.

Me neither! I just remember DD getting passed to me straight away and I presume the midwives done whatever they had to do while I was having cuddles. Whatever they done must have happened quite quickly as DD was whipped away from me as she came out very quickly so they spent a bit of time (felt like ages). When she was ok and passed back they midwife then stitched me so can't remember anything about placenta just wasn't a big deal!

I doubt I will bother with a birth plan this time, they didn't even look at it the last time. I will listen to suggestions from midwives and DH knows what is ok and what is not. TBH as long as my baby comes out safely and we are both ok that's all that matters at the end of the day.

Thanks Susan, they are fab reasons and I will show my oh later.

I stayed at home until the last minute with DS and went in at 10cm dialated so I know I was more relaxed at home. I also know I can do it with minimum pain relief ( I LOVE gas and Air and the TENS worked great with DD)

Im not bothered about a water birth but I like pacing so pacing in my own livingroom would also make me relaxed.

As I said my main reason is not having childcare as we have moved somewhere that I know no one..

I dont want the kids to see anything though. Luckily we have a long house so they should be well away form us. I could make up birth packs for them to do in their room. Or they could be at school or in bed, who knows.

Im happy that the midwives here do loads of homebirths as it is a bit more rural. They also reckoned an ambulance could get to the nearest hospital in 25 mins if need be. I live across from an ambulance depot. I need to let them know what ive decided by 34 weeks.
I know OH will go with what I really want but I want him to feel comfortable with it. How is your OH about it?

    Hello all

I am new to the site and have just stumbled across this thread.
I am 25, live with my husband renting off my parents a 3 bed house in Central Manchester.
I had a gastric bypass in April 2009 and have lost 10 stone to get pregnant. 1 year post op - I fell pregnant straight away (:D) and I am 31 weeks gone.
    Quick question about maternity leave/pay.
I work for the Home Office and have done for 8 years. I have been told my maternity allowence will be: 26 weeks SMP with work topping the remained up to 90% of my currently salary
13 weeks SMP and 13 weeks nil pay.
We earn between us 35k - and I am hoping to return to work part time - will we be entitled to ANY benefits whatsoever? Does anyone know? I dont know how we are going to manage with 13 weeks SMP and 13 weeks nil pay?

    Kind thanks in advance!!

I would probably try and have a homebirth next time but with this being my first I think I'd feel safer at hospital.

    Hi salski and welcome.

Try playing around with some figures at www.entitledto.com. You would get an idea from there.

Do you know if you are having a boy or a girl?

I can't tell you for sure - that 26 weeks with work topping up to90% is fantastic though, you're very lucky! I get 6 weeks at that, 20 weeks at 50% then the same as you so we've been saving and budgeting hard.

Best bet is to go to http://www.entitledto.co.uk/ and try and fudge the numbers as best you can - we can't get any idea really either though until we actually start claiming.

You will definitely get child benefit of £20.30 (I think) a week though, you should have the application form in your Bounty pack but if not you can get one online here: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/childbenefit/start/claiming/how-to-claim.htm

I'm having this one (my first) in hospital too. I want all the medical intervention at hand, just in case.

Welcome. I have an RNY bypass, BMI went from 45 to 21 :) I'm 15 weeks today.
  • nic homebirths - I agree with all susan said except they didn't ignore my birth plan, because to ignore it you would presumably have to have read it!!

That said I'm the stroppy type and made sure they did as I asked, so my hospital experience was really ok, despite induction.

The home birth was excellent, though, and my main reason is the reduced medical intervention that happens at home.

Also, it can take an hour to get to the hosp and they thought I may not make it on time!!

Look at AIMS website if you're interested.
