Thanks hun. Hubby was fantastic last night. Tried to keep me upbeat and was really supportive. But I think it's difficult when I can't explain how emotional I am at the moment anyhow. It seems silly to me when I burst into tears about small stuff so to him I must be a complete weirdo!

I just think it's rude. Very rude. The hospital. Not the hubby, or my tears lol. :(

They really have no sense these hospitals next theyll be telling you your worrying over nothing when its their fault you started worrying in the first place :( hope you are ok *hugs*

Poor Charlie - [[[[HUGS]]]] Hope you get an answer at 10am, come back and update us. Stupid hospital.

    slouching on the couch
Who was talking abut this and sleeping on your left hand side? I've never heard of this before. I always slouch. Any links to more info?

I think it was Giz. I don't know about the couch thing but I've been told in pregnancy yoga that sleeping on your left is best as it doesn't compress the vena cava - the main artery alongside your spine. Have a look here: http://www.askbaby.com/sleep-positions-for-pregnancy.htm

If you're not comfortable doing that, you can also lie on your back with your right hip propped up with a cushion.

Have they asked you to give up your 20wk scan or have I mis read?
From what I can see they are keeping your scan on the 20th but need you to go in now for the measurement? Is that right?

Either way, they should not have left you fretting all night. I honestly think though it is just their f**k up and nothing to get too stressed about. But a complaint is deffo in order.

    Hope all goes well..xx

Thanks Dusty. And everyone. They haven't asked me to give up my 20 week scan yet. She did say there was little point coming in a week later to have another one done. I'm just hoping she meant they would do it all together rather than a quick scan and then no anomaly scan.

I just remember the sonographer taking loads of measurements last time. She really was fantastic and we got a good look at bubs in the process. So how they can't have the right measurements after a) not recording them at the first scan and b) having a second scan so they could get the measurements is beyond me.

I'm hoping i'm over reacting and they haven't spotted something on the bloods or something that they want to check on the scan and then i'll be hit with bad news.

    Calling them now! :(

It all sounds a bit odd. My (well, sproglet's) measurements were taken at 20 weeks, then I had to go back at 21 weeks because he was hiding his head, but they booked that straight after my scan as they knew there and then that there had been a problem.

    Morning!

Charlie - I think the nuchal measurement has to be done before 14 weeks. This would be as well as the 20 week anomaly scan. They can't be done at the same time.

Re slouching: I think there was some research done on optimal fetal positioning. For labour, the baby should have it's spine towards your front, otherwise you have a back-to-back labour which is more painful. The baby's spine is meant to be heaviest so if you slouch back it is meant to sink back to your back whereas leaning forward (or scrubbing the floor) will bring the spine to the front. In my antenatal classes, the teacher said that the baby tends to rotate clockwise in the beginning of labour, so if you have been sleeping on your left, the spine will be on the left as it is heaviest, and then in labour it will rotate to the front and you're ready to go! I don't know if any of this is true! The thing about lying on your left to stop compressing the vein draining blood from the lower half of your body is though - apparently if you get piles lying on the left will help.

As for me, I was woken up by contractions in the night. Lasted about an hour then started to tail off so I got up and walked around to try to stimulate them but they just stopped. How long is this going to go on for?

Did some obsessive batch cooking yesterday and froze 9 'ready meals'. Off to do some more now!

Hope you all have a good day!
  • Hey EJ - this is for the triple test that is done between 16-20 weeks. I thought it was just bloods for this tbh. But they said they needed baby's head circumference measurements. Confused.com

My 20 week scan was already booked for 20th December.

I can't get through now. Voicemail. Have left a message. I'm gonna call on the hour every hour until I get someone on the phone. I think it is going to be a long morning! :(

No no no. On your due date, you go out into the garden and look under the cabbages. That's where babies get left. My cabbages were planted in plenty of time to make sure they're nice and big for baby to hide under.......
 I never got round to planting cabbages.

  • I've read back, but remember practically nothing. Bad night here, didn't sleep well, snow was coming off the roof loudly all night and it's taken some of the guttering with it. :( At least another 2 houses have the same problem, and that's just the ones I can see. House is only just over a year old. In fact it's a year today since we got the keys.

Our health board has this Fetal Positioning Leaflet online.

Oh, and Dusty I have a fab soap dispenser that I got from Next, it's black with a row of diamantes down it, I love it. (I love Next, but unless it's in the sales now, it's a no-go lol)

Oh and my car seat has just arrived!

Had a bit of a strange call from the hospital last night. She said she needed to fit me in urgently for an emergency scan and could I go up at 8.30am this morning. Now, that isn't even possible with 2 children still here. But I could have gone up last night were it an emergency so I asked what it was about. She said they needed to re-scan to get the babies head circumference measurements to be able to calculate the triple tests thingy. I said I was booked in for my 20 week scan on the 20th, could it wait until then? But apparently, no. This needs to be done before 20 weeks.

So I sat there last night waiting for a call back to tell me when they could fit me in which never materialised. I'm annoyed. Because I sat there imagining all sorts of things. The reason to get me back up there seems pretty feeble to me. But also - the last time I was sent for a scan they then tried to cancel my 12 week one saying i'd already had one. Yet I knew they didn't take the measurements so managed to get my 12 week one.

Now, correct me if i'm wrong but the 20 week scan is the important one. I'm not keen to give this up. The hospital don't appear to know their left arm from their right but this is my baby we're talking about. I'm damn well not giving up my 20 week scan just because THEY didn't take the right measurements that they needed. Or whatever the real reason is.

I'm waiting until 10am and calling them back. I think the way they have approached this whole thing, leaving me to worry all night is disgusting. I've barely slept. Sat here attempting to work like a zombie. I just want it all sorted out.

If anyone has a hug, i'd appreciate one right now :(
:grouphug: That's terrible. If you feel up to it, it could be worth making a complaint.
Oh... and someone from work has just quit because she's found out she is pregnant and doesn't feel like she can do both. !!!!!!?
There's no way I could hold down a regular full time job while pregnant. First time round my husband was coming home at lunch times to give me lunch. He also had to take time off to drive me to my antenatal appointments as the three to four minute walk was too much for me. Also when you get up to 15-16 hours sleep a day you don't really have time to fit work in anyway.
