I'm off to pick up pram and will persuade DH that a Nando's will be quicker than a pub lunch as I want to pick up my Asda on-line order and the other pram I bought offa eBay even if it is going straight back on there after I've comandeered the isofix base!

  • I hear ya on the feeling like a failure for having to have a C Section. Gosh after the first I think it affected me quite badly feeling like a failure wise. The second affected me worst as I was determined to go 'au naturelle' and it just wasn't happening. I took it as a personal blow and didn't feel half the woman I should. After the midwife confirmed that this time they wouldn't even let me try 'au naturelle' I did have a bit of a tearful moment. I think as a woman that is perfectly natural. I just hope the hubby understands as I had originally hoped I may be able to try again even though I knew the odds were stacked against me.

I think that's something I have to deal with and move on from. Hubby will support me as long as me and baby is brought into the world safely. He's not fond of operations though and will worry that something will go wrong. I kinda need him to be positive though so hopefully he'll bring that on when the time comes as i'm seriously not looking forward to having to have an epidural again!

Having said all that though, once the epidural is in, you can't really feel anything 'down there'. You certainly can't see anything with the big sheet in the way! I was looking through a reflection in the door with my first to see what was going on. All I could feel was lots of 'tugging' during the operation. I didn't see any needles or cutting implements. I think I may have freaked out if I had!

I hope that helps at least some fears. You don't get to see much and you're pretty much just waiting for them to pass you your baby. Those first few moments are still magical and us women are very versatile. I'm glad I didn't have a GA. I wouldn't have missed those first few moments for anything.

    :)

    Good Afternoon Ladies :)

Thanks for the info on maternity coats.

Fantafan and JoJo - I really like the grey Next coat - but it's not instore and everytime I check online - it is out of stock :(

Coops - Do you have a link for the coat you got from M&P? I went to M&P and Mothercare in the week and neither had any winter coats in

I've had a scout online and found the folloiwng. Please can you give your opinions as I only want to buy one to last me through to March and can't decide. Bearing in mind I need to wear it to work and to walk the dog :) :

out of the four Sammy I much prefer the Dorothy Perkins one - am not keen on any of the ASOS ones I'm afraid.

I managed to bag myself this coat for £14 http://www.next.co.uk/shopping/women/maternity/26/2 as someone was selling theirs on another baby forum I go on. I was thinking of buying it anyway so was pleased I managed to get it that much cheaper - am undecided about whether it's warm enough though although warmer than the zip up top I have been wearing!

What about this one Sammy? http://www.next.co.uk/shopping/women/maternity/26/3 very similar to the DPs one but a little cheaper :)

I think coats is one of the hardest parts of maternity wear shopping :(

Giz, I was so busy chatting away to the anaethatist just generally talking !!!!! as I do when I'm super nervous. My sister is a doc and did a anaethatist rotation and she told me to have a chat with him as they are often bored during surgery. I can remember suddenly saying "oh can you tell me when they're about to start" and he said " too late, they've been at it last 10 mins and baby nearly here". To start with i couldn't feel a thing and towards the end I could feel pressure but no pain as the anaesthetic was starting to wear off. So you dont actually know that they are cutting. The anaethatist told me to say if I felt any pain and he'd top me up again.
I didn't experience any pain with the epidural either. They put on this icey spray before putting needle in. I said can I have lots of that I dont like needles. I also asked the midwife to hold my hand, it did make me feel better. I was concentrating so hard on not moving, they said ok that's done and I'd barely felt a thing. That's coming from a right whip when it comes to taking blood, injections etc.

I guess I had a really good anaethatist. He knew I was squeamish and he just took at as a part of his job to keep me relaxed.

For me the worst bit of C section was the recovery afterwards. Just the soreness. Because my baby was in NICU I was constantly up on that ward and kept missing my pain killers. In the end, my hubby went out and bought paracetamols and cocodamols and I'd just take them myself.
Also, they ask you before if you have any allergies, I told them penicillin but forgot to mention metal allergy. I didn't realise that the stitch clips were metal (they can give you plastic ones). I'll know this time!
Oh and there is a sheet up so you or OH's cant see anything.

Ticklepenny-what a lovely thing for your hubby to say x

I prefer the 3rd one from Asos. The DP one looks like jersey material, will it keep you warm?

  • Evening ladies,

Hope you are all well, another question from me tonight

Now I don't know if I'm over-reacting or not but I've noticed a real change in bubs movements since Thursday night, he is not thrashing about as much with huge kicks/somersaults but the movements are more gentle and slow and less frequent. I've counted them on several occasions and although they have gotten less, I'm still having around 10 kicks/movements in 15-20minutes when resting.
I've googled it (silly I know) and most say it's because there is getting less room or he's having a growth spurt, has anyone had this experience?

Yes I was saying a few days ago that I'd noticed baby had slowed down. It used to seem like he was having a party in there and now it's more like he's just shifting position. Hiccups are becoming very pronounced now though, my belly moved with each hiccup for the first time today.

Well I have just had an eventful few minutes....I have just slipped down the bl00dy stupid stairs we have and put my foot through the wall :o:( They are so steep and narrow, luckily they are windey too so never went from top to bottom. Got such a fright not hurt but will be a bit sore tomorrow I think. Better get the wall sorted before letting agency do their few monthly check!

I fell right down stairs with DD1, if she is anything to go by, your baby will now be a stroppy little madam who even at age 7 has a tantrum at being made to put a jersey on when it is snowing:rotfl:
Other than that, no ill effects.

So any recommendations for a nice thick coat, pref wool type, but not black or too dark as I don't want it to end up being a dog hair coat :)

What about...Very MSE but maybe not very cool...a long wrap cardigan that will work when preggy and when not??

sarah I would be worried if you had felt no movements, but reduced movements might suggest baby has less room to move, as you say. Check with m/w if you're worried?

Thanks whoever posted link to sainsbots baby club(charlie?) Got my huggies pack today, last in the shop, and its good.

Bought a new car today...well new to me.
