I am confused. I log on each and every working day and never have a problem. I don't understand why one customer is having so many problems doing what I am successfully doing. Doesn't make any sense.

As I have said before, I have first-hand experience of nearly every UK online banking site - I have very high standards and if my bank doesn't play ball I move on. I find the Metro bank online experience amongst the very best - in fact, IMO it is the best online banking site in the UK.

I am not referring to the bank's website - I'm not too keen on that, but the online banking is a very different beast.

Apart from your own logon difficulties, what does the online banking site not allow you to do that you would like it to?

The only criticism I have of Metro bank is that they have not fully implemented outward faster payments.

I encounter the same problem logging on to Metro Bank's internet banking every time (using Firefox)

"We are currently experiencing technical difficulties, please try again later.
If the problem persists, please contact Customer Services on 0345 08 08 500 " (they have a different message for incorrect log in details)

It works on the second attempt

It may well work better using Internet explorer etc

Which banks are you comparing it with

It is better than Clydesdale Bank , Bank of Baroda , First Trust Bank , ICICI

Which banks do you consider to be the top 5 for internet banking ? and the worst 5 ?

I think Cumberland Building Society's internet banking is better than Metro Bank's

Same here with Firefox, but I do not really bother as it is normally successful on the second attempt.

I also want to see outward FP with Metro Bank ....

Apart from that, the online banking is ok ...
I can not complain given the overseas foreign currency withdrawal perks and I am not using it as my main account ...

I too use Firefox, and also Camino (on a Mac).

I am comparing it with Bank of Ireland, Lloyds TSB, First Direct, Barclays, HSBC, Secure Trust, Norwich and Peterborough, Allied Irish Banks, Cahoot, Smile, Co-operative Bank, Coventry BS, Nationwide, Yorkshire BS, Yorkshire Bank amongst others. I also have access to several non-current account based banking sites like Capital One, AIB Credit Cards and the Post Office Savings Account. I bow my head in shame that I have no experience like yourself with the Bank of Baroda, ICCI, Bank of Cyprus etc.. Do you think I ought to have accounts with these banks too in order to express an opinion?

The top 5? Couldn't really pick out 5 because they are generally much of a muchness. I would say Lloyds TSB and Nationwide are amongst the best - apart from requiring the gizmo to enact certain transactions. Barclays is OK, but smile, the Co-op and Norwich & Peterborough are a little basic, although they let you get most things done.

can people who used the "free cash withdrawal" abroad can share their experience? Was it really 100% fee free with perfect exchange rate?

I am just asking because found this alarming post about Halifax Clarity where sounds like there's a trick to cheat on us:

    5/9/11 200 EUR = 176.08 GBP if that helps.
    or going further back
    24/5/11 500 PEN = 111.70 GBP

The writer of the article is a bit stupid, to be honest.

He assumes everybody who uses a Halifax Clarity Card for overseas transactions will then choose to pay a year's interest (and goes on to calculate the amount incorrectly). Anybody with half a brain would clear the balance asap and reduce interest charges down to a matter of pennies of £100 for a few days.

The comment about being charged for ATM withdrawals in Bulgaria would have applied to any plastic card being used in those machines. In the same way UK ATM providers (typically in night clubs etc) have machines that charge a fee.

So I wouldn't make a decision based on some of the idiotic things that thread identifies. They are simply wrong.

..having the same nickname as the one you replying to. Be nice :p

Otherwise, I agree. Specifically preferring the "only 6%" one-time fee by Natwest (which made it eligible for the "cards from hell" label) to the 12.9% APR is a bit silly.

Yes, there are lots of ways handling money abroad can catch us. Remember the rules over here (withdraw money from a well-known bank's ATM rather from a shady one next to a deserted petrol station), and read Martin's Cheap Travel Money guide. There's a reason the Clarity is preferred, but it indeed would work much better for purchases.
