I had once just waited an hour to meet an advisor that was booked in advance with Abbey.

It's never wise to judge other banks by the cowboy standards at Santander.

What's that got to do with Metro bank?

Perhaps, one hour wait before starting meeting with Santander contrasted with report above of 45 mins in total to open an account at Metro Bank?

Interesting Abbey came into the conversation - they were the only bank to have me a coffee made whilst opening my account - back when they had in-house Costas? Remember?

Sorely tempted to head up to London next year to open an account - their rates are blindingly good.

It would be very odd if some of those 200+ branches were not north of Watford.

I used the "north of Watford" expression as where southerners are supposed to think The North begins. I now see that one of the branches already proposed is in Hemel Hempstead so I didn't make much of a prediction!
  • I have read this thread about Metro Bank with interest an naturally off course I went to the most recent open branch of Metro Bank which is Uxbridge and asked about their basic bank account, however if any of you are planning on opening the basic bank account just remember the debit card can only be used to make puchases in sterling and withdraw cash in sterling as well. Found this out after doing some reading of the small print...

This bank claim they have no stupid bank rules but then have this restriction on its basic account... I think they also told me that you cannot have standing orders on the basic accout as well. This is what the man told me when I enquired about this.

Off course the bank are good because they opened longer hours then their rivals.

It was noted that the Natwest which is next door to the Metro Bank branch at Uxbridge have decided to open their branch there for longer house from 21-11-2011, just wondering if this is trend we are going to see for longer bank opening hours.

I read this and thought you must be mistaken/misinformed - a bank not allowing a function like standing orders in their basic account.

However you are right! Their T&C for their 'Cash account' state:
Electronic payments can be made into your Cash Account, however, they cannot be made from your Cash Account
    which is a ridiculous rule.

Perhaps someone should complain - I remember on Moneybox the CEO saying he reviewed all complaints personally - certainly its the exact opposite of their 'No stupid rules policy'.

    Regards

Maybe - but the 'Watford' referred to in the expression is often the one near Rugby (Watford Gap services), not the one with a junction.

So maybe your prediction was good anyway;)
