Metro bank - new customer review

johnmoney05 has rattled my cage a little! Has anyone used the debit card for cash withdrawals abroad? Any feedback will be appreciated.
A recent edition of Money Box (18:02 onwards) gave details of some Metro bank customers who have had problems using their cards overseas - as some banks/retailers have not updated their systems to recognise Metro Bank cards.
As always, its best practice to take cards from more than one provider when going overseas to avoid being caught out like this (regardless of who you are with).

Opened a current account today in under 30 minutes. Walked into the Holborn branch with just my driving licence (photocard) and a credit card statement. No problems with any of the checks and got a debit card straightaway. Internet banking is basic and only works with IE or Firefox. I could log in with Safari but then I couldn't click on anything.
Only problem so far is that a faster payment I sent from my LTSB account has not arrived even after 4 hours! So can't really test my debit card until I have some money in there. I am happy to wait until tomorrow though, considering that I did open the bank account on a Sunday afternoon!
The convenience (if you have access to London) and no silly fees is what sells Metro Bank to me. They will have to raise interest rates significantly before I give them any of my cash to look after and start using them as my main account.0 -

I now have my salary paid into Metro Bank and use it for my day-to-day banking. I find it excellent and it is nice to speak to a real person when you need to ring them. I've even had a couple of follow-up calls to check if the matter had been successfully resolved.
I live in the East Midlands and opened the account while on a trip to London - once the account is open it works perfectly well via the online banking service so you don't need to visit a branch. The online banking is a little clunky, but works OK and improvements are being made - like the way transactions are now listed in a smaller font and are grouped according to the day they appear on your statement. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. It's just another bank jumping on the fractional reserve banking bandwagon.0

You can also make free withdrawals at cash desks of Magyar Posta, should you ever need an amount greater than your ATM withdrawal limit.0 -
Anyone with a Metro Bank a/c? Trying to register for online banking and totally forgotten my password and security number. Only 1 person on at the call centre today so cannot help....... It might help if anyone knew the format (letters/numbers/capital etc. - how many digits etc.) - that might jog my memory.
Thanks in advance if anyone can help.0 -

You need your password, 8 digit security number and customer number. My customer number has 12 digits. Hope that helps.0 -

I opened an account with Metro Bank at Holburn. Opened very easily and much quicker than I thought. When I first arrived they apologised that they did not have a consultant available but probably would within 10 minutes. Instead of me standing around they gave me a coffee voucher for Costa Coffee just up the road, suggested I wander up to get myself a hot drink and then return by which time someone would be free to see me. Sure enough and good to their word, I returned with a latte and was shown straight to a seat and a nice chap took my details and opened an account for me. Probably took 45 minutes but I left the branch with my ATM card and like another poster had also been given the chance to "test" my web log in before leaving the branch.
So far - very happy with Metro Bank.0
