This might help as it's aimed at the retail/customer level.Customers' rights last for six years
The law says that a customer can approach you with a claim about an item they purchased from you for up to six years from the date of sale (five years after discovery of the problem in Scotland).
This does not mean that everything you sell has to last six years from the date of purchase! It is the time limit for the customer to make a claim about an item. During this period, you are legally required to deal with a customer who claims that their item does not conform to contract (is faulty) and you must decide what would be the reasonable amount of time to expect the goods to last. A customer cannot hold you responsible for fair wear and tear.
The six year period is not the same as a guarantee, but it does mean that even where the guarantee or warranty supplied with the product has ended, your customer may still have legal rights.

I bought a hotpoint washing machine and after 2 years it broke, so after a lot of argie bargie at scottish electrical, store they sent a hotpoint technican he came to my house and replaced my drum..in a week..... .he tried to scare me by saying if there something stuck in it ...ooooh ...wellll.....ermmm.. and all thet jazz ...but he fixed it..
however if pack in a year later and scottish electric stores are closed down ....booo hooo..
so I had to bin it ...The funny thing is I bought a recondition one from the market 70 pound and its a hotpoint..(after I swore Ill never buy a hotpoint one again..)“Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.”

You are wasting time-if you bought it in October and a fault had developed it is not fit for purpose-seriously reject it!!!!
Regardless of whether it had/has a pre-excisting fault you DO NOT anticipate when buying that within a couple of months it will fail to work properly! You are within your rights to insist for a replacement and not a repair(or your money back) Although I quite agree that things are not as simple if say you have had a product for more than 18 months or so.
Equally, things that are not 'electrical' can be replaced after the guarantee has expired providing there is a fault-eg I had a saucepan set and about a month after the guarantee expired the coating on the outer bottom cracked and started coming away in pieces-I wrote to the manufacturer, sent them the items(at their request) for examination and the set was replaced without question.
If you stand up for yourself you will get results-but if they think you are unsure of your rights they will walk all over you0 -
the last convo i had on the phone they said i can have a replacement after an senior engineer comes out tomorrow and confirms the faultIf you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all0

omg!! just give me a river and a mangel and i'll do it myflippinself!!!!
repair man came out and seemed to fix it. tried washing something and it still !!!!ed up. spent about 30mins on the fone trying to sort a replacement. i can either have the display model (erm, no) of my washer, pick another or get a refund. i want a refund! thing is, i dont know how long it'll take for them to put the money back on my debit card so i can buy another one. the insurance i bought (then cancelled) takes 10-14 days!!!! !!!!!!!!!If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all0 -
Good offer-get a refund and buy a decent brand (not from DSG) now you have the chance. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Someone may already have pointed out that Hotpoint are not what they used to be, they are in fact Indesit with a Hotpoint badge, as are Ariston. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

i know! they take the money instantly, but it takes 10days to come back to my bank? !!!!!!?? i really do want a refund, especially as someone else has posted in this forum that their indesit is having a similar problem. but i cant be stuck without a washer for 10 days while i get my money refunded. ggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrIf you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all0

Now you have a refund I would also suggest a basic Bosch model which will at least have a 2 year warranty. If you have any independent electrical stores near you try and see if they have any clearance items - ex display etc as you can make good savings still with original warranty
No model will be infallible (especially as yours works hard by the sounds of it) but you should have a better probability of less trouble with a Bosch than a Hotpoint
Your better "lifetime cost" would be to go for something like one of the Siemens models with a 5 year warranty or possibly Miele with same warranty. Another one to consider is the ISE machine which is designed by washing machine engineers0
