Even if you don't want to take part, if you are in a shop or office, surely it's just common decency and manners to be quiet out of respect for those who do?

It's up to the individual if they wish to take part, there should be no forcing.People can respect without taking part in my mind.

My sister phoned the DWP this morning,on her mobile,0845 number to get half of their 'typical' message followed by 'we are currently observing a 2 minute silenche, please call back later'.I find that pretty bad tbh

    why?

people can't really use the oh but it's 0845 now, we have say no to 0845 and various other numbers.

DWP didn't know your sister was ring from her mobile.

so one company decides to do the silence.. that's bad is it.

DS came home from school and told me they did thier 2 mins silence at 10am and just for 1 minute.

I asked why 10am and not 11am he said because it was our break time,

Beggers belief that teachers can't organise 2 minutes silence at 11am, most of the children wanted to do it at the correct time for the correct amount of time.

I discussed this with our children when they got home from school. They did have a 2 minutes silence in their classrooms. We used to have a special assembly with a 2 minute silence.

but.... you are guaranteed to get through to sky/vigin/british gas call centre in those 2 mins

No, I work at British Gas and we closed the lines to allow people to take the 2 minutes, as it seems the DWP did.

My shop observed the 2 mins silence. All staff stood at the front, and no customers were served. They were warned when entering and they could keep shopping if they wished, but most joined in.

I don't think it's right for certain places to observe it,especially when people are paying to call and it may be something important,no.But that's just me.But then I don't do silences either but will buy poppies

I am amazed that people don't/won't observe the two minutes silence and especially have the cheek to moan about those who do.

For all of you who don't observe it, doesn't the significance of what these brave men and women who sacrificed their lives mean anything ?

It is two minutes out of your day to pay your respect to those who paid the ultimate price to ensure that we live in freedom - can't you even manage two minutes ?

And moaning about having to wait on a phone call and that it cost more because the caller was on their mobile - pathetic !

God this has wound me up !

  • Surely people have the freedom to observe it or not? People died so that women could get the vote, but people don't feel obliged to vote.

Personally, I did observe it, but I don't think it should be forced on people.

You are right - it shouldn't be forced on people.

It shouldn't have to be - they should do it anyway.

  • Its 2 minutes fgs hardly a lifetime is it and is it really so much of an inconvienience to shut ones mouth just out of respect for the troops who have paid the ultimate price and the familys who remember them every day of every year and simply ask others to respect this for 2 minutes once a year?
    Nothing to report:p
