Two Minute Silence Rant

  • Having been a teacher in comprehensive schools for the last 14 years I have come to the conclusion that there is only one group of people that are worse behaved than the hoodie wearing youth of today and that group is adults. I had a bottom set of lively 15 year olds for maths at 11 am but you could have heard a pin drop for the 2 minutes they stood in silence behind their chairs - but I suppose that kind of headline doesn't sell copies of the Daily Mail.

Is this another aspect of Poppy fascism?

If we can erase the Sabbath, have 24/7 shopping including Sundays, have pubs open later, have off licences selling booze to youngsters until midnight, have ad hoc alcohol delivery services, practically legalise the smoking of cannabis filth in public places/transport,then we can also !!!! a snook at those who suffered and died in various wars.

It is symptomatic of the decline in morals/values in English Society.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

At work today we took part in the two minute silence in the call centre. If you were on a call we were told to offer the customer to partake in the silence. If the didn't want to we just had to carry on as normal

I prosume that if people have had to use an 0845 number to phone your call centre, hear classical music that they will not want to pay more and take longer on the phone (this of course may not apply to your call centre.) Whilst it does not excuse it, it may explain why customers did not observe the 2 minutes silence.
  • I wasn't around at 11 this morning but from what I have heard most people just wanted to continue on and get off the phone which to me is fair enough if your paying for an 0845 number.

I work in a shop. I wore my poppy and we did the silence today but i was in my bakery (which i work alone in) i stood silent for the 2 mins. if i were to have been on a till and the person i was serving didnt want to take part in the silence then i would have expected them to wait until i had. i would no way continue serving. i feel strongly about it and want to show my respect. too many people have no respect for anything anymore.

you know I had a shock a few years ago, on my way to Dads funeral there stood your typical young teen at the side of the road. On seeing the cars come past he stopped, bowed his head and took off his hat. That small mark of respect made my day that little more bearable.

I wonder if those Heros in the City followed the two minutes silence, or were they too busy making their fortune and forgetting either our troops or us who bailed them out

It's up to the individual if they wish to take part, there should be no forcing.People can respect without taking part in my mind.

My sister phoned the DWP this morning,on her mobile,0845 number to get half of their 'typical' message followed by 'we are currently observing a 2 minute silence, please call back later'.I find that pretty bad tbh

I am minded of what happened when some declined to participate in the Princess Diana 'silence'. Some were attacked and some shops had their windows smashed.

A little too close to the lynch mob for comfort.

DS came home from school and told me they did thier 2 mins silence at 10am and just for 1 minute.

I asked why 10am and not 11am he said because it was our break time,

Beggers belief that teachers can't organise 2 minutes silence at 11am, most of the children wanted to do it at the correct time for the correct amount of time.
