sounds like a good idea. I need to do that too. Not the food, that isn't going to get tackled for a bit, but i think i should do at least one item onto an auction site each day that would probably get rid of one box of clothes:eek:

And if you have a chance to post that old dvd we talked about that would be ace too!

Well, I am a Catholic (lapsed :o) and for once I am going to give up something - biscuits! It will be torture, but for 40 days I reckon I can hack it.

As for ironing, for the last 3 weeks, I have paid for an ironing lady to do the bedding and table cloths etc. Although the new house is much bigger, I'd rather forego a cleaner and do it myself and have some help with the ironing. This week, I put a few more items in the bag and today DH's Primarni t-shirts have returned - on hangers and wrapped in plastic bags like they've been drycleaned! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

It still feels a bit too decadent. I think I should be doing it, but I loathe ironing and actually don't mind cleaning - good for the soul I reckon ;) Still there's an element of guilt at spending the money on something I could/should do myself - but I do love putting it away and it's all done :D

macgirl, I have sent you a PM. but am not sure if it sent, because my lappy lost tinternet for a moment....let me know!

I used to feel guilty about paying someone for something that I should be able to do myself......but the sad truth is that I can't do everything, and the stress of feeling wholly inadequate was becoming too much.....and so for the few ££ I now pay each week, my stress levels have lifted considerably, and the house is a lot nicer to be in.

Because the house is more or less tidy as a result, I no longer find doing the ironing such a chore, whereas before it was just another horrid job that needed doing amongst many.

That said - if ever my current cleaner wants to do another couple of hours or so by taking my ironing home with her, I am sure that I could find the slack in the budget to accommodate it once in a while!

now that I can incorporate it into my budget, it really does seem to be a good use of some of my money. Obviously, in years gone by, that wouldn't have been an option at all - but all the more reason for me to appreciate it now!

Day one of lent over (almost) and despite my boys at work buying me chocolate and sweets (not intentionally trying to ruin things for me) I have managed to say No Thanks.....

    39 days to go :rotfl:

That is precisely why I've decided to go for it, it's worth every penny. A Mum in the playground was poo-pooing the idea of ironing bedding. Each to their own I say. I can live with cleaning my own skirting boards, if it means I can say yes to having help with the ironing. As the famous ad says "Because we're worth it!"
