re Savings - great idea. As you say ou are used to putting money away so why not keep up the habit, except of course this time, its yours and not for a debt!

And you never know, you may even have a few pennies for the LK Bennett sale. I saw a beautiful silk cream blouse in the sale, it was fabulous but its dry clean only and I know I am so messy I could only ever wear it once, so I stepped away with a sigh!

Run duly done - a cold and breezy 3 miles kickstarting my rather belated marathon training! I will head out again on Tuesday after work.

You did better than me. It snowed heavily here on Friday and although it's melted there is black ice on the roads and the pavements are really icy too. So I managed 1.5miles :o then had to turn back.

Honestly, if I could have videod it, I'd make £250 on You've Been Framed - I was like Bambi! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    Hi Hypno,

about managing you money now that there is no compulsion (no debt to have to pay), I read somewhere that I good way to go is to put in savings/investments 10% of your income; have another 10% for what really makes you feel great (but this has to be spend every month) and cover all other expenses with the remaining 80%. We ahve been doing it (although with us there is 20% that goes to pay what I call 'negative wealth') and it is shaping really nicely.

Forgot to mention that the 10% savings/investments should not be touched - this is for your retirement and/or financial freedom.

  • I love that idea firewalker - but I have no fall back savings, think I might try to get a safety net saved this year, then work on that next year. I have no pension of my own so will need every penny when I do retire

That is a very good idea, FW.

I have done a workable monthly budget to incorporate spends and savings, which will be good assuming it works......and then hopefully that leaves my bigger bonuses in May and at Christmas for holidays and lump sum savings.

Once the savings are on their way, I will incorporate some sort of mortgage overpayment into the equation, but for the next few months I want to ensure that I can manage with what I have without worrying about the fact I have paid money that I cannot access if I need it.

I am looking forward to it :D

Mind you, today I have spent £200, on groceries and "essentials" for the house - things that I really can't do without any longer......so no savings this month!! Of course, though, the spends that I want to make for the house from hereonin can come out of the monthly budget spends as they are not essential.

As for the LK bennett sale.....would it be wrong to admit that I bought a pair of killer heels when the sale email dropped into my inbox while I was away on holiday......:rotfl:

Glad to see you back Hypno. I am trying to keep up with you.
Your the same weight as me now then. But I am not doing any diets or exercise at the moment. Just keeping going is enough for me. Although Twin2's BF has just started a job at the leisure centre, so there is more opportunities to go swimming on reduced entry. DGD went on Friday with the twins and it was so good for all of us. (them swimming and me the peace!).

I think that once I manage to pay off the final bills from my last house I must try and put tha 10% away. I used to do it. Sort of slipped of late.

I also need to find a storage solution. Not ventured into the loft. Decided that if I cannot access it, then apart from Xmas Decorations once a year, then I don't need the stuff and I have got to get rid of it. Which is easier said then done. I have brought far too much stuff with me from the old house!.
When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.

I have seemingly spent all day on the go, but haven't tackled many of the things I wanted to do, so the loft here remains unexplored, and the xmas stuff remains on the landing.....

I am planning an evening of tv starting at 5 (Ski Sunday :D) so I really should use this last 20 mins to try and get that bloomin tree up.....

    Will report back.....

Well, the tree is up there - we have no ladder, so just stood on a chair, aimed and launched.....:rotfl:

So on the basis of health and safety, and the fact that I don't actually know if it is boarded up there still, I won't be launching anything else up there.....but I will be adding a loft ladder to the list of things I need to buy/acquire :o

Still, the tree is off the landing for now......that is something I suppose :D
