thanks! I don't normally suffer hangovers - so not quite sure why I have one today....well, other than the obvious fact of having drunk rather too much :o

What I can't work out, though, is why I feel like I have been punched in the ribs.....when the most energetic thing I recall doing was playing bar billiards **insert confused smiley here**???? Quite bizarre!

Think it will be a loooong day :rotfl:

whereas in years gone by it would not have even been an option.

So, hurrah for having a life.

..and that's the difference now, the point other people have reached too. You can choose to juggle things around so that you do have a social life, whereas before there was no give in the budget at all. Hence the need for scratchies etc.

Enjoy your hungover packing! It's amazing what you can do when you have to.

Getting in quick before Z appears with the smut :rotfl:. Is it the side of your ribs or the front? If the side then it's probably coming from your back - I forget what the musces are but if you have a tightness there you won't feel it, but it puts strain on your side. Probably from the packing if nothing too energetic went on last night :rotfl:. I have it at the mo :(. But at least no hangover :D.

    Happy packing :)

Oh yes, there have been so many years when there was just no way of finding any more within the budgets for such things....

Or at the very least I would have gone out but would have avoided ordering much in the way of food, and would have made excuses about not drinking...in the hope I could get away with paying as little as possible, but at the same time feeling quite uncomfortable with not being able to pay my way etc. That was something that I hated doing, so generally would just make my excuses and not go in the first place.

One thing (of many) that this journey has taught me is to appreciate the good times - it is indeed true that you have to hit the lows to appreciate the highs.

It is the back of my ribs......I guess it was as a result of reaching up into the top kitchen cupboards yesterday, because I certainly didn't do anything any more exciting!!

Although I'm debt and even mortgage free, and I've been spending lots on doing things in the house, my everyday budget simply won't stretch to ordinary nights out ... hence the focus on getting my second career going simultaneously with my other work. I still do my one scratchie, but mystery shopping isn't going to cut it!

Although I have been out rather a lot recently, a lot of it has been covered, costwise - eg work events, or gigs paid for as birthday presents, so it has been rather exceptional these last few weeks - I don't think for a moment that I could afford that level of socialising on a continual basis if I were funding it all myself.

BUT, it has taught me that I do need to do these things occasionally, even if it is just a quick drink after the match on a Saturday. Previously I wouldn't have even done that, I would just have headed straight home.

So, along with the cleaner, and the proper haircuts, etc, having a budget for socialising is something that I haven't previously had, but going forward will do whatever I can to try and accommodate it.

All part of my "live life" plan for me and the kids going forward :D

Oh don't get me wrong! Not that you need my approval, but I think the choices you've made about the disposable income you *do* have have been brilliant! e.g. the cleaner - my equivalent when I moved was a dishwasher :rotfl: I don't *need* it in strictly dfw terms, but the difference to my quality of life has been fantastic :j:j

And when I do go out, I feel *so* much better for it, completely agree that we *need* that connection to what's going on around us. But the simple fact for me is that in the "good old days" I used to work 26 contact hours a week - and now I work about 11, so the money to save, and to do what I want, has just vanished. And I don't want to even try to up those hours again, so a second career it is:money::beer::cool:
