Kicked out of Tesco for buying too much

Hello
a friend and I went to tesco to take advantage of offers, we had a trolley full with products on offer, we were approached by the manager while at the check out and we were informed:
Sorry you can't buy those items as you bough more than 10 of them and they are on offer. left everything at the check out and just walked out.
Friend went back in to speak to the manager and ask him why they refused to sell us what we picked, they said Tesco policy is not to sell more than 10items at one time and they showed her a sticker on the wall with small prints (which she needed a microscope to read) and said it says on there! we go shopping very frequent and buy items on offer in bulk (15-20of each) some supermarket (Morisons) even help us take the items off the shelve!!
Anyone had this problem before

  • Our Tesco's have a company standard sign on various shelves saying "Bulk Purchase policy is 5 items".......

Interesting how they pick and choose though - because you can buy a case of wine which is charged as 6 individual items..............

I would generally say they will let you go as long as you don't take the p*ss - which unfortunately some peeps do.
What should I put in here that won't upset people.........

Indeed, although I think it was quite lucky that the OPs friend just happened to have a microscope with them - how odd!
The word is BOUGHT, not BROUGHT.

Can I ask, for interests sake, what were you buying, how many of and how many were left on the shelf?

Isn't it so that everyone gets to benefit from the offer instead of just a select few who get there first?

Maybe Amazon and like should enforce such a policy then people wouldn't take a deal shown on a thread here and then go and buy loads to sell on Ebay leaving everyone else with nothing.

I have never had a problem bulk buying loo roll, washing tablets etc when on offer. I don't just go for the offers though I buy other stuff at the same time.

I think it would depend on what you were buying, maybe they assumed you had a shop and were buying to sell on.
  • I think it was Safeway's policy to only sell 3 of any "good" offer instore.

My OH used to be a manager of a well known supermarket and basically the rule is at the end of the day the manager's decision is final.

He has had similar queries, generally when a very famous coke is on offer, and he always used to monitor it with his stock levels.

Its Tesco policy im afraid and its a case of if you dont like it go to Morrisons, at least they help you to get it off the shelves their!!!

Seriously though, they want offers avaliable for all customers hence the limits placed. They dont want to disappoint a large amount of people who just want the odd one or two of the offer as you have emptied the shelves.
