I think it's only fair to let you know that my daughter had a terrible experience when she broke down and tried to get her car recovered by First Direct. They refused to recover her to home, but would recover her to a garage which was further away, provided I handed over my credit card details. This is not what it says in their policy.
If you are thinking about using them, take a good look at the reviews here first.

I don't feel they should feature on this website any more. They just appear to be scamming people at a time when they need help!0 -

Are you sure about this?
All the Breakdown providers offer the basic package which will come get you and take you to the nearest garage. The AA and RAC really try hard to fix it for free. Green Flag five you 1 hours free labour after that they take you to the nearest garage.
This is unless you upgrade to a better product which will get you home from anywhere in the country.I work in finance

The GL and I have a car each and AA '2 people at the same address in any vehicle' roadside cover would cost us £63.65 - £21 Quidco cashback = £42.65
We only drive the 2 cars (we're each insured as second drivers on each other's car) so, as we both have Quidco accounts, we each signed up for single car cover which cost us 2 x £28 - 2 x £21 = £14.
Thanks Martin.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

1st Call are without doubt the worst company my wife and have had the misfortune of dealing with in over 20 years of motoring. We took their insurance because of their 'FREE' breakdown cover. Unfortunately my wife had to make a claim on the insurance, what should have been open and shut situation with the third party admitting liability to the police has turned into a nightmare that has dragged on for over 6 months and resulted in my wife losing her no claims discount, they even charge £30 if you should want to renew!
The experience of free breakdown cover was even worse! Took over 3 hours to arrive, at night, with my wife being on her own for the whole time! RIDICULOUS AND FARCICAL, this company should be removed from this site.0 -
Good morning all,
can anyone tell me if they know a car breakdown insurance that includes 'key loss' ?
been doing a search but most say it does not cover key loss or if you leave keys locked in car.
thankyou0 -
Hi can any of you knowledgeable folks recommend any breakdown co. for a short trip to France? I have quotes from Breakdown Direct & Vehicle Rescue Direct but wary of them not being one of the big boys (as far as i can see). Only need cover for 5 days and RAC etc want £60-70+
Thank you in advance for your help :AWife to a great husband and mum to 4 fantastic kids 9,8,4,3 they drive me mad but I would do anything and give everything for my family :grinheart

I've just been caught out by AA Breakdown via Quidco.
I purchased AA Roadside via Quidco after seeing it in the weekly email.
Checked after a couple of weeks to find nothing logged for the transaction, so went to raise a query, only to find it says:
"AA UK Breakdown has a 60 day waiting period from the purchase date before it will consider queries about missing cashback. "
I therefore did not raise the query then but made the mistake of waiting the 60 days before doing so, only to be told the query has to be raised within 7 weeks.
I suspect they mean you can raise a query anytime you want within 7 weeks, but *Quidco* won't discuss the matter with AA until 60 days.
I think this is far from clear, and lost cashback as a result. Not a happy bunny.
Ive had this and been able to get customer services to honour it even though I had gone beyond the waiting period!0 -
Hi,
I wonder if anyone has any experience of european MOTORCYCLE breakdown?
I have 2 trips 1 on my bike ( to Hungary) and 1 in my car (to France) and I am having trouble getting cover for both at a reasonable cost.
Thanks

Why do they do it? no wonder no one has any respect for businesses these days when 'trying it on' is automatic.
Green Flag breakdown cover renewal quote came through recently, £10 dearer than last year despite now having a '10% NCB discount' on it.
Went on their website and put in IDENTICAL details and cover and got a fresh quote £8 cheaper - and obviously without NCB!
Better still - thanks to this wonderful place I am now wise to cashback so I signed up with topcashback and will get over £30 back.
£37 for a top package is fine by me.0
