I used the tax calculator to check the last 4-5 years and it said id been overpaying in total £3000...I rang HMRC who told me my tax codes were fine etc???
I've worked for the same employer for approx 10yrs in which I've done different roles/pay rates.

Give us the figures and tax codes and someone will check them.

Tax codes are just the normal tax codes for each tax year, so doesn't appear to be any problem with those unless they have Mth1 after them?

You also need to give us the tax paid for each year.

Which tax year? Was the overtime paid on the same payslip or totally separately?

Not much wrong with these figures - if anything you're slightly underpaying each year.

When you say bank work, do you work for the NHS by chance? If so are you paying into the pension scheme and are those figures from your P60 or what?

Ok I'm going to assume that as they were the same employer, the running totals would include info from both payslips. Is this correct?

Are the figures you have given inclusive of this bank work?

Yes I work for the NHS. I've never had seperate P60s for the bank work so I assume it includes those wages too.
Yes they are from my P60s.
I am not currently paying into the pension.

Well each year you are underpaying by £2 approximately. How did you get the calculator to show a £3000 overpayment?

Rather than assume your figures are correct, you should make sure by adding up what you get from each payslip.

I am not currently paying into the pension.

Any specific reason why you are not paying into one of the best pension schemes around?

Add up each bank payslip per financial year adding onto each normal payslip per year?

I know, its silly! Long story but I have just got a better paid job still working the NHS so once I'm in post I will sign up.

Each year just said I may have been overpaying a certain amount so over the 4 years I gave, it totalled that. I dont really know much about tax so I thought I would check....

Basically, yes using the gross figures. You'll probably only need to do so for one year so you are sure what they're doing.

Very silly I'm afraid! You've been throwing away all of your employer's contributions for however long?

    Why wait - join tomorrow!
