Tax rebate SUCCESSES

They are the emergency codes for their respective tax years. However they are also the standard tax codes for each tax year. The only difference is how they are being used. If they have a Wk1/Mth1 suffix and are being used non-cumulatively they are emergency tax codes. If no suffix and are being used cumulatively then they are normal tax codes.
It sounds possible that your 944L W - did you miss a bit after the W? - was an emergency tax code.
Looks like the emergency tax code was used here as you have paid more tax than would be expected for that income.
What happened before this new job? Were you working elsewhere or were you on JSA or neither?
It won't be for a whole year if you only started in June. Do you pay into a pension and is it taken from gross salary before you are taxed? If so this would reduce the amount on the P60.
I started on the 3rd June 2013 and only started paying into a pension at the end of April this year. Before that, I was teaching, but it doesn't seem to be reflecting any previous income on my P60.
Apologies - missed some out of the tax code it was 944LW10 -
Did you not give your new employer your P45?
Which is the emergency tax code.
I thought I had done - in fact I'm pretty certain I remember giving them the P45 when I started.
What's the most realistic outcome if I get in touch with the HMRC? Am I likely due a rebate or am I likely to owe them money?
If it helps, I taught around 28 hours per week April to May on around £13 p/h0 -

What was the tax code on the P45?
If they used it they certainly don't seem to have included the details from it in the P60.What's the most realistic outcome if I get in touch with the HMRC? Am I likely due a rebate or am I likely to owe them money?
It could be either to be honest. It could even be that it's correct. It depends on whether or not your pay overlapped and both your previous job and current job used your personal allowance for that last/first month. If this has happened you would have underpaid tax.If it helps, I taught around 28 hours per week April to May on around £13 p/h
Not really. If you provide the figures from your P45 - you should still have one part of it - and your P60 we can tell you if the tax is correct for the year or not.0 -

Alright, thanks for your help. I'll have a look to see if I still have a copy of my P45. If not, I'll try and get another from the school on Monday0 -
Hello all. Couple of weeks ago I sent off the P50 form asking for a tax rebate, as I had only one job between 2013-14, and didn't claim any benefits for the rest of the time. I sent an eP60 in and I hope they accept this!
I also wrote in to claim back tax that I occasionally paid on a part time job of mine, between 2010-2012. Again, I did not go over my personal allowance for those years and did not claim any benefits.
Has anyone else had any experience with getting tax back in those circumstances? If not I shall post when I get a reply!0 -
Thank you MoneySavingExpert.com! After checking your tax code calculator I realised that I had been on the wrong tax code for the entirety of my Maternity leave. A quick call to HMRC (who were actually very friendly and helpful) and I now have a big cheque winging its way to me!
I would recommend checking your tax code - mine had a 0 in it, which meant I didn't have a tax allowance, obviously an error but I would have had no idea with out MSE.:j0 -

My code has 3 0s in it and so have millions of others but it is correct.
As to the 0T code which I assume you are talking about, this happens when people don't hand in a P45 or complete a P46 (or new starter checklist) at some point.0 -
Thanks guys. Called HMRC, call lasted two minutes. Checked my figures and confirmed I have overpaid, though wasn't permitted to say by how much on the phone! Fingers crossed, cheques on the way.0

Hi, I think I did not claim additional tax relief for 2012/13 for my pension contributions. I am a 40% tax payer. Is there a form for this as I assume I can't recover this via my 2013/14 return?0
