Tax rebate SUCCESSES

Hi
I wondered if anyone could help as cant really find the answer.
In 2008/2009 both me and my husbands tax code was 549L from April until Septmeber when it changed to 609L for the rest of the year.
When I put in my totals for the year with the first code its says we overpaid by £545 each. However when I put it againts the new code it says we have underpaid by £55 each.
Is this worth a claim or will it not be true as the tax code changed? We both stayed in the same job and it didnt include any maternity or paternity leave.
Hope someone can help thanks

The normal tax code in the 2008-09 tax year was 603L which gave a tax free allowance of £6035
You say your final tax code was 609L which gave you an allowance of £6095 so you should have received a P2 Notice of Coding which gave the detail of why you had the extra £60 allowance which could have been due to an allowance you were entitled to from your employer.
You need to find your P2 Notice to check if the tax code was correct. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Thanks to your tax rebate calculator i found out i was on the wrong tax code and could have overpaid £750. When i rang the tax office they confirmed i was in the wrong tax code and i was owed £864! They advised they are turning claims round in 3 weeks but judging on how long it took to answer my call (19 mins) i won't hold my breath just yet.0

"Swipe me" is that a record for improved waiting time? I spend all day doing last number redial this time last year, when the machinery cut me off with a message about being busy !
Do you know where in the country your call was answered - I eventually got through to somewhere not a million miles along the coast from the radio active waste dump at Sellafield?0 -

I doubt it. I rang the day after the recent strikes. I got through within 60 secs. Although it probably helped that I rang at 08:05am
The advisor has sent my file to be reviewed by my local tax office. I was advised if I hadn't received an answer within 5 weeks then I should call back. This was a query for year 2006/7.
They've already sent a rebate for 2008/9 for £1750 :beer:0 -

Just to add, I heard about this but figured as I had no payslips left and have been a SAHM for 3 years now, I decided not to look into it.
I received a letter 3 days ago saying that I had overpaid by £263 in 2007 (my last year working) and that a cheque for that plus interest of £9.30 would be with me in 14 days. 24 hours later it landed on my doorstep. One very happy bunny, especially as it was so unexpected!0 -
Hello, I checked my tax code after I saw Martin on Daybreak (I'm Australian so had no idea it needed checking or could be changed) and have just received a cheque for over £5,800. I was on the wrong tax code for over 6 years! Thanks a mill Martin! I really appreciate your help.

:Ti saw your weekly e.mail in my in box a few weeks ago and decided to play with the tax code checker, i discovered that my husband had been paying £60.00 per month too much tax for several years. we telephoned tax office following morning, and eventually got a refund of £2,500 plus an extra £60.00 less tax charged per month off his pension. many many thanks. i would advise anyone thinking about it, do it, you may be surprised.0
