I'm not an expert, but this website seems to suggest that the IOM has it's own tax system for residents, a quick scan through the site may answer your questions :

After seeing the MSE article on tax codes, I guessed mine might well be wrong, but decided to wait till after Christmas before doing anything as my circumstances were changing.
Then last week I received a new PAYE coding notice. I phoned HMRC, and they told me I have two refunds on the way. The first I now have - about £3,500 for the year 2009/10 - and am now waiting for the refund for 2008/9. On top of that, I am owed money for this year. That comes to about £6,000 in total, I guess.
Furthermore, although they have a computer system checking the years mentioned (and that is all that is being checked unless you ask), I asked for another check (manual) for previous years.
No-one has mentioned paying me interest yet. Interest rates used to be rather higher than now ... :j0 -
Saw the MSE newsletter this morning, checked the item on tax rebates and thought "647L" didn't look familiar so I checked my last three salary slips - all with tax code 537L. As advised, I phoned HMRC (using Saynoto0870 to find alternative number) and spoke to a very human being (Martin), who checked and changed my address details, checked my code, explained how it had been correct for my previous job due to car user allowance but was no longer appropriate. He changed my code to 652L with effect from the change of job (September 09) and told me to "expect repayment of overpaid income tax at your employers' first use of new code". He told me that he had generated a letter immediately to my employer and one to me, confirming these details. Thank you, MSE, thank you HMRC's Martin.

Thanks!
I saw the tax code checker a month ago, suggested I might be in line for a rebate. Phoned up the HMRC - I've been overpaying for 4 years (partly my own ignorance!) and am owed £6218!!
Banked a cheque for £2506 last week, £800 refunded through my pay this year, and awaiting the last £3000 shortly!
And also £100 a month better off!!
Re interest - I got £4.83 repayment allowance (or something like that) - I think it worked out to be 0.04%..0 -
Everyone here seems to be getting their rebates very quickly (apart from the PAYE rebates which I know go through the wages) the cheques are being lodged - and of course I'm pleased for you all!!
Just wondering how long ago you all requested these refunds? It's just that mine was back at the end of November and my latest call to HMRC I was told that "it is taking 3-4 weeks for investigators to process all claims" so I wouldn't get it until wel lafter Xmas??
Yet the previous guy had told me it was sitting ready in the system and he didn't see why a cheque hadn't been posted already (that was beginning of Dec?)
Can anyone enlighten me as to whether my situation is normal or am I being misinformed?
Many thanksWe must become the change we want to see(Gandhi)0 -
I support payroll systems for a living, and I knew my tax code was wrong. Finally got round to telling them in September time and the next month had a extra £200 in my salary.
I am STILL waiting for the previous years refund. Was told it would be two weeks in October, then told it will be in November. When I called them they said it was cleared on the 29th November but was stopped for checking. Told to call back in 2 weeks. Called back and then told it should be released 'around 24th December'. The amount is only around £600 but that money would have come in very handy for Xmas. If I had owed them money I bet the letter would have been arriving the instant they found out!!! Really annoyed at them telling me it is clear and that I will get the cheque in a couple of weeks and then to be told I have to wait even longer...If the world is a stage... I want better lighting!0 -
My tax code has been wrong since 2007 and I am due a £5,000 rebate in the New Year

It's called 'repayment supplement' and will be added to the 08/09 repayment - see the next to last entry on the P800 calculation. None is due for 09/10 as they're within the timeframe for repaying that. If there's a refund(s) due for earlier years ... the supplement will be added automatically. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
