Hi MSE's
I have looked into the Tax Code checker and it has come back with this, can somebody help me work out what it means please. This is for the tax year 2010/2011.
The tax code you've input says your tax-free allowance is £6040 - £6049
Based on ONLY the salary and age you've input, your personal allowance would be £6475
There's a difference of £435 between the tax free allowance suggested by age & salary, and the one from your tax code. Unless you have any other income, or deductions (see below), it appears your tax code could be incorrect.
Thank you in advance!0 -
After browsing on your site I came across the Tax Rebate info and thought ....why not check it? Am I glad I did. I found I was on the wrong code, one phone call later it was all sorted. Seems I have been over paying since 2005. I have now received a rebate of £1,845 in just over two weeks, Amazing........thanks so much would never have known without your help.:j0

You may have taxable benefits from your employer (medical insurance?), other untaxed income or have an adjustment for tax underpaid in an earlier year?I am an Accountant. Im so greatful that i was sent the money saving expert email with the story about reclaiming tax. I checked the tax code (BR) my employer had been using and the tax checker said this wasn't recognised. Abit more digging and it turns out i'd been on an emergency tax rate for almost 3 years with no personal allowances deducted.
Got £700+ back from my employer for this year and £2500+ from HMRC, just in time for Christmas.
Excellent. :beer:0 -
I also discovered I was on tax code BR......
