    Hi.

Is this the format that people will need to help me work this out

Can't honestly make a lot out of that? If this is from your P60 there should be only a single tax figure? Is the 'benefit' and the tax refund related? But I've replied at more length on the separate thread you've created.
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !
  • Thanks Mikeyorks! Yes I felt the codes for the job with healthcare looked correct, even though the code checker thought they were incorrect but I will have to check this seeing I don't have the P11D. The codes were all taken from end of year P60s so I think that means they are final codes. Thanks for your help as the codes with letters like BRX and M1 really threw me! I shall ring HMRC today and see what they say I suppose...

  • Hi im not sure if this is the right place to post but i used the tx code checker tool and found out that i possibly should be on code 647L. I am currently on code 653L. Does this mean that i possibly owe money back? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jock

Do HMRC send you a P2 Coding Notice at the start of each tax year ?

If YES - Check the P2 form because it will tell you why your tax code is 653L

  • Hi, i dont get anything like that at all. Just my p60 from employer.
  • Then you need to ring the tax office and ask for a P2.
  • Ok thanks Gertie Walker. Ill give them a ring. Just a little worried now though that Ill have to pay money back.

    Hi everyone,
I've actually been a "geek" the whole time I've been working (10 years) and kept all my P60s and Coding Notices (and P11D forms up until a few weeks ago when I chucked them - d'oh!)
Nothing "geeky" about that - I've still got every pay slip I ever recieved (I'm retired now). Maybe one day I'll sit down and work out how much I've earned over the years (then maybe I won't ;))

Anyway, isn't there some "rule" that says you should keep this sort of information for at least 7 years? I believe that's how far the tax man can go back.

Hi, I am confused! I get a state pension of £6328.92 pa (£121.71 per week) plus a small civil service pension of £2970.48pa and an even smaller pension (for which I paid over £27 a week whilst in that employment) of £938.64pa. Whilst my personal allowance is £6475pa, HMCR deduct my state pension from this amount, which leaves me with a tax code of 14L. They take tax from my civil service pension and then take £15.80 tax from my other small pension. I have been waiting, with great trepidation, for them to write and tell me that I owe them money - don't want to phone them in case they tell me I do owe them, so if there are any tax experts on here please can they tell me if I am being taxed correctly? My total income for the year from these pensions is £10,238 - not exactly a fortune! Many thanks.
  • The easy answer is: total income 10,238 less personal allowance 6475 = 3763 taxable at 20% = £752.60 - total tax due from you for the year.
Tax from your CS pension should be £564.20 a year on code 14L, plus tax on your 2nd pension £15.60 x 12 = 187.20. Total tax being paid 564.20 + 187.20 = £751.40 - looks good to me!
