I`m not going to pay upfront anymore as I lost £500 a couple of years back with Brunel Franklin who said all my c/card agreements were unenforcable then they were apparently not correct and did`nt pay back my payment either.

Brunel Franklin have just founded the [STRIKE]den of thieves[/STRIKE] sorry, [strike]brood of vipers[/strike], no the Association of Professional Claim's Managers.

Got it right in the end - that would be professional as in "harlot", I suppose.

Anyway, it has a code of conduct, which requires an initial fee of no more than £20 plus disbursements so you might want to make a complaint against them.
Lifestyle claims told me that Brunel Franklin are no longer licenced does anyone know if thats true?
Seems unlikely they would bother to try to give themselves a veneer of respectability by setting up that association if they weren't still in existence so clearly it is a lie. Still ambulance chasing is a mangy dog eat mangy dog world.
  • How is this company allowed to keep operating? I had a call last week from Ryan Bayliss last week saying i may be owed money. I asked how he knew that and he said my name was on a database but he couldn not give me details. I asked where the information comes from so i could check myself as apparantly he could not see the information himself for confidentiality reasons. He gave the company providing the info as Pure Marketing. He then tried his best with a bit of fishing asking me about loans and mortgages but if he doesn not know why he is calling then i was not for telling him. I am pretty sure i have never had any PPI. Does anyone know if this shower of fraudsters actually have access to a database that is not just the Bt phonebook as i would like to know how they got my name and number.

The MoJ acts on volume of complaints. Unless people complain and enough of them do, then the firms stay off the radar.

A database of what? people in the phone book?

There is no database of what insurance policies you have. It is not in the public domain.

  • I've just had a very lucky escape from this company.
After not having previously read this thread, I received a call today from what at first appeared to be a very genuine company.
Having previously fell for scam calls, I was at first wary, but after a lengthy call decided what did I have to lose.
I must have spoken to at least 3 separate people before I was presented with the "administration fee" of which I stupidly paid.
After putting down the phone, something In my head alerted me that something wasnt quite right.

The first alarm bells were when the pre-contract information document came through on email, which seemed to have a number of discrepencies to what I had been told.

I decided then to cancel and it was stated in the agreement that this could be done in writing or by email of which I sent an email literally 30 mins after having being sold the concept.

I then decided to do a quick google of the company and found this thread and my heart sank - had i just thrown away £359?

I decided to call them as thought my email cancellation may not have been enough. No answer - what suprise.
Just as I put the phone down I received a call on my mobile from the very same company, I though they would be ringing in response to my email but no, they were calling because the payment had not gone through on the credit card. At that point I decided to alert them that I wished to cancel due to the reviews I had seen on here, and they just put the phone down.

When I contacted my credit card company, it had turned out that as the card was relatively new, I hadnt actually got round to activating it thus no money to these scammers - a very lucky escape!
  • Be careful - they will probably try again.
  • i also fell victim to the lifestyle scam at the end of September. I like many others paid out the £359 to them via debit card. I also like others cancelled within a couple of days having read the terms and conditions. I also contacted them and I received an e-mail confirming cancellation and promises of re-imbursement. However like many others I am still awaiting re-imbursement. Looking through this thread has anyone successfully received back their "deposit" and why is it taking the MoJ or various trading standards offices forever to get this company sorted out.
  • I've just been contacted by this company.

Even after a very convincing sales pitch by the sales agent I decided to do some more research before parting with my money. I'm glad I did. As the old saying goes, 'If it sounds too good to be true...'.

After reading through this thread it seems I'd have better luck contacting my banks directly when it comes to recovering mis-sold PPI.

    Thanks!

i was rang on wednesday by these fly by nights, after huming and arring for 20mins i finally gave in after the woman said she would do it for £299.99 instead of the usual £359.98. within 1hour i was having 2nd thoughts and emailed them saying i was cancelling the agreement, they rang me back about 1 hour later trying to talk me out of cancelling, they even offered to do it for the bargain price of £150! i declined.
ive since looked at my credit card statement and they have charged me the full price of £359.98! (i this actually legal)? i've informed the credit card company and they have said wait till the 30 days that they have to refund me the money is up!
  • I have put a template that should help sjp87 and others in a similar plight here. The key point is that their regulator has told them they cannot do it.

However, if the agreed figure was £299.99 then the payment taken is unauthorised and you can ask the credit card provider to reverse it. It seems more likely though, that they have simply quoted the figure without the VAT then added it back on but if they did that then it would seem at best to be deception and at worst downright fraud.

Even if you are going to try to get the payment reversed send the e-mail and make sure you copy in the regulator.

At first they gave me the figure of £299.99+ vat, ie £359.98, when i told huma i couldnt afford it just before christmas she said we will do it for £299.99.

ive phoned my credit card company and they couldnt/ wouldnt tell me if this was legal or not, i would say not as i didnt agree to pay £359.98!

ive emailed the ministry of justice about them already, but will email them again and send it to lifestyle claims aswell.
i will see what happens, as i rang them again after cancelling just to make sure it was, they said it is cancelled, so hopefully i will get my money back!!!
