I think your mum is very lucky to have such a supportive daughter! I bet she's glad you stumbled across her little secret now. Well done!

Just wanted to add my congratulations. I too find it amazing that people can keep these secrets but I know they can. My mum is in the same situation but she won't be helped. Well done for helping her sort this out. You're a daughter in a million.

Oh dear - having read this thread from end to end, I now have tears in my eyes! What wouldn't I give to see Blade's mum make that final call and tell the bank to stick their card where the sun don't shine? And then cut the card up?
When it's my turn to be debt-free I'm having a ceremonial `cutting up the card/debt-free' party...! OS and MSE style of course! Gonna sellotape the last card to the biggest firework I can find, and send it into orbit with a loud bang!

Well done Blade, sis and their mum!

    Hello

Just thought I would drop in with a brief update on my Mums situation. Well been to Mum and Dads today as its Fathers Day and Mum prudly showed me her credit card bills which both now stand at under £2k each, and its all at 0%. She is well chuffed with herself. She's making payments of £200 to both and so should be clear of debt just after Xmas - its a great feeling for me so who can even guess what it must feel like for my Mum.

Since I last came on with an update my Sister announced that she was getting married, Dad already had the savings plans in place to make a contribution to the cost of the wedding. Mum in the past would have limited herself to buying something at M & S so that she could put it on her Chargecard, instead saved £2 coins so that she could but a gorgeous dress from Country Casuals, with the added bonus of buying it when the store had a 20% off day - she is totally Money Saving now. She has also rubbed off to a certain extent to my Dad (even though he has always been good with money) and has been saving £2 (after buying the dress) and 20p coins for their spends for their holidays.

Even though its Dad's Day, no-one could be prouder of their Mum than I am at the moment................roll on Christmas and those final payments!!

I too would be proud of my mum if in the same situation. I have just read your first messages from 2005 then skipped to here, and it is a fantastic turn around. From being mortified over you find a hefty statement, to being able to proudly show you her present statements. Sounds like your mum has much more confidence in herself now aswell as being better moneywise. Congrats to her getting as far as she has.:T :T :T

    Hi there
Just read through your thread. Well done for supporting your mum. And well done to your mum for paying off her debts in the way she wants. I am glad though that she managed to get your dad to pay more. Certainly a big step forward

    Hello and Happy New Year!

Well I am checking in on behalf of my Mum for what will probably be the last time (on this thread anyway!) I spent time talking to my Mum over the Xmas break and she will be totally debt free in March - only 2 payments time
It couldnt have worked out better really, Dad is still unaware (as far as we know) and he turns 60 in April and will be retiring, Mum will be giving up her p/t job at the end of the school year (July), so they can enjoy their retirement together without Mum being worried about her debts.

I think despite the initial upset when myself and my Sister discovered the extent of Mum's debts has definately brought us closer together and for that I have to be grateful.:T

Thanks to all those who offered their support in those 1st uneasy weeks when sheer panic had set in, and also to those who have followed to sporadic updates I have posted - this forum is an absolute god send - Martin for Prime Minister :money:

    Thanks for reading!!
