That happened exactly with me - wrong one in Burnley, he reserved on in Nelson for me. Very glad because it was a drive out to start with.******** Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity *******"Always be calm and polite, and have the materials to make a bomb"0 -
I Managed to pick up a Pictureka game from the Uttoxeter store as we went to Alton Towers for the day, I did manage to reserve it online before we left however when we got to Argos the one i had reserved wasnt the i one i recieved the catalogue number was different the one i recieved was 390/5841 & it was the second edition0

daydreamer1 wrote: »Just my 2 penny worth, but I think the major gripe with the reserving is firstly, how many people have an iphone? Probably only those who can afford to pay out for the game in the first place, and secondly, there still is people offering out reservation codes meaning you got greedy and deprived someone who actually got off their backside and trapsed into town to queue for it....why????
With any really good offer like this there is never going to be thousands of them about so you expect them to go out quickly. Personally I was the only one queueing at 10am in my local store but then I live near a town, not a city, never the less, not everyone is going to get one, and from the way the iphone glitch was bandied about it wouldn't suprise me if there were stores that opened with none available and really whose fault is that???
Also, before you go making excuses about busy, kids, timing and the rest of it, I managed the mile and a half walk to town pushing a double buggy with 2 kids under 3 dressed and breakfasted to get a paper and to be on the doors of Argos at 10am to get one because I CAN'T afford to pass up the offer of making christmas a bit easier on the purse, if you didn't get one blame those who reserved them all before the store opened or yourself for not wanting it enough to get off your !!!! and out the house early enough (disabled and sick excluded).
although I agree with you on the whole get off your bum and go get it thing and also on the fact it is a freebie whilst stocks last - people cannot complain they didnt get one - thats just the nature of freebies.
I do however disagree with you about iphone customers, I own an iphone (on a shckingly good cheap deal) but I am in no way rich and christmas is certainly going to be tight this year. my iphone was bought before the recession and before my husband was made redundant so saying iphone customers can afford to purchase the game is a bit silly. I hate snap judgements - I also own a bmw again purchased in better times but it doesnt mean anything about my financial weel being- people are always assuming you have money by your material objects grrrr!!
anyway I do have an iphone and I offered to help many people out with locating and reserving their game at their local argos - i done this so that non-iphone users could get a fair shot at getting one for their little ones at xmas. no benefit for me at all, just trying to make it fair for everyone and it took alot of time and effort by the way!
For the record i reserved one myself as i was going to travel to the store (quite far away) however the car failed its mot (see not luxury lol) and didnt get out of the garage so i was no longer able to travel to the store and get it and there is no way of cancelling so someone else could get it so i offered up my reservation on here. so i had a genuine reason, i wasnt greedy and i didnt set out to deprive anyone.
i think alot of people on this site should jump off the very high horses they travel on and understand that it was a freebie - you either got it or you didnt no need to whinge about it just hope its your turn next time. but do not make sna judgements about others when you do not know the facts.

The iphone issue is rather a red herring.
Whilst it was NOT possible to reserve online (the correct item) because the FREE version had a product code that was not listed, you COULD reserve the correct free Pictureka BY ANY PHONE just by making a call to the store.
The ONLY advantage that the iphone application provided was the ability to effectively check store stock levels of the REAL/FREE product.
For me (if I had chosen to do this) it would only have been 4 phone calls AT MOST - since I was not going to fetch it from any store more than 15 miles from home.
IN REALITY - I would only have need to make ONE call - to any of the local stores within range - because THEY would/could have checked stock levels at other stores on "my list" and even reserved one for me if I'd asked them to

Yes, it was Market Square and they'd all gone. Very glad they found one for me in Nelson as we'd had a drive to get it. Made the most of it with a trip to Poundland and Ossy Mills too - we know how live it up!******** Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity *******"Always be calm and polite, and have the materials to make a bomb"0 -
Well I think I was possibly the first to spot the iPhone glitch but I spent around two hours helping others by reserving them sorry if you don't feel reserving them was fair but at the end of the day I helped a lot of people get the game and i had to give up my time to do it I gained nothing by helping others get this other than the knowledge I did a good thing. Obviously I'm an iPhone owner and I have a 1 year old and I'm 34 weeks pregnant and was up and had got the paper and outside Argos at 10 to collect mine I never took advantage of being able to collect at anytime because I'd reserved it. I don't think the iPhone comment is fair either just cos you own one doesn't make you rich and if I was rich surely that makes me a decent person to have helped others for no personal gain, I could have ordered one myself gone and got it and thought ha ha stuff you no iPhone lot but I didn't. Just my opinion I'm not having a go but I bet well over half the people on this thread wouldn't have got one for their kids if it hadn't been for me and the other iPhone owners on here.Make £11,000 in 2011 challenge - £120/£11,0000

Jeez! some people!
You win some, you loose some.
I was lucky this time in that I managed to get a freebie game, other deals I have sometimes missed out on. It's no big deal, just part of being a MSE. I am saving my game as a prezzie for my son, along with the freebie Lego from the Mirror paper the other week (and the Toy Story free Lego earlier on this year) and am just about to go to Tesco to 'double up' my clubcard vouchers for Xmas prezzies
