But he would have had money in the account to cover the direct debit if his income support was in on time?

I don't understand the part where you say "if he can afford to pay by direct debit"...aren't direct debit payments usually an effective way of reducing costs...why should he not be allowed to do this just because on income support?

If the OP knew today that she was not going to be paid the IS, why didnt she keep the money that they recieved today to make sure that the DDs were paid. This seems to me to be another case of blame it on every one else, all I have to do is sit here waiting for the money to go in to fund my lifestyle. It is true that the benefits that the OP has mentioned just today, adds up to more that a person earning the minimal wage gets. And she/he expects the tax payer to pay her bank charges due to her own stupidity. God it makes me SICK.

What has this country come too?

But the OP didn't know that he wasn't going to get his income support today. It was due today and he didn't get it. So either he has some sort of sanction that he wasn't aware of and he wasn't getting his entitlement this week or DWP have messed up his payment. If he was due his payment today, and didn't get it therefore incurring charges that are caused by an error at the DWP then they should be liable for this...no?

I'm sorry to say that there's not much hope, crisis loan wouldn't assist my severely disabled dad with taxi fares for his hospital visits after his bank took £100 of his IB in bank charges.

Have a read of this thread http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?36790-Is-the-bank-taking-your-Benefits

I reckon regardless of what DMG says you should have a go at getting the money back. By my reckoning you have a good chance of success.

Nope but there are many people whom seem to be in a similar position on that site and have got their money back.

There are NO benefits that have a Saturday payday, the benefit is not due until Monday, therefore it is not overdue.
