I think hope brightonman was being ironic - but people do spout that off at me a lotSquirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -

I've found our local pcworld staff avoid me now. Simply because of this conversation.
Staff: Hi there, everything ok?
Me: Honestly no, I'm having an utterly awful day... I kept him there for about ten minutes bemoaning everything in my life, our mortgage issues, the kids...
Now, they smile and say if you need us.0 -
This reminds me of a time I was in a large sports supermarket, I was looking in the fishing section when I heard a sales assistant selling a lady some gear for her son who wanted to start fishing, he was selling her all the wrong stuff that was rubbish and in no way for anyone let alone her son to start fishing.
I interrupted and said, "This isn't what you want, I'll show you what to get as I've been fishing for years and I know what I'm on about."
The sale assistant told me to mind my own business and not interrupt a sale, I told him he was selling the lady the wrong stuff and he was taking advantage of her ignorance instead of helping her.
I asked him to fetch his manager and see what he has to say, he went away and I never saw him again, I then advised the lady what she needed and she thanked me for my help.
I told her what the assistant was doing was getting rid of stuff that is hard to sell to people in the know, she could have bought all that and her son wouldn't have caught a fish ever and probably given up, so if the assistant had sold her the proper stuff she would or may come back for more, but selling her the wrong stuff she wouldn't.0 -
i am a sales person and yes people are different.
but just some customers seem to know everything! at least they think so. what is wrong in just listening what the sales person has to tell you for 1 minute? maybe we know about offers which are not displayed? maybe we can apply some discounts that specific day because we are chasing target? maybe we know that the item you are looking at is constantly back as faulty?
and then this extremly knowledgable arrogant :mad:customer is coming back with faulty item
and dont get me wrong here. i appreciate that some sales ppl are agressive and clue less but not all
Had he just wanted to talk to us for 1 minute then I may have listened. When I worked in retail I let people come in a browse as I know they might not want to buy there and then. I found that I usually got more monthly sales by letting people approach me than the people who jumped on customers the minute they walked in the place.
I have to say though that if the place is selling something that's constantly coming back faulty and the sales people were telling me that then it would put me off buying from the store that's still selling known faulty goods. If At First You Don't Succeed, Call It Version 1.00 -

There's a PVR at work that none of us sell, and basically refuse to sell because it is rubbish and hardly works. We've told buying office, but surely it's better to say "don't buy this, it won't work, but this will," to a customer rather than just say "yeah, sure buy that." and keep quiet, knowing it will be coming back?
Every shop is going to sell something that's rubbish because the buying teams sometimes have to buy crap to get a good deal on something that isn't. I can't control what stock is available but at least I can steer people towards something that will do what they want. It saves their time and mine, because I hate dealing with returns.0 -

Fair play. Thinking about it what i said was wrong because the staff don't have a say in what the shop sells unless it's a small family business. I take back the last paragraph of what I said as I would be pretty annoyed if I was sold something that the sales person knew would more than likely come back faulty. However the people who make the decisions on what the store sells should look at stuff like that and decide not to order any more to sell in their stores. If At First You Don't Succeed, Call It Version 1.00 -

When working in retail we were taught to as a customer if they needed any help as soon as we saw them but i would leave them alone for 5/10 minutes then if they were still looking politely ask them if they needed some assistance, i had a few customers who thought they knew what they were on about but didnt know naff all0

DH used to work in an electrical dept of a well known supermarket and made sure he knew the spec of the most popular selling goods and also what was value for money and what was a load of shoite, that would no doubt be returned within the month. He had no compunction about steering the customer away from crap products and also telling them if the products were cheaper elsewhere (stuff like scart leads and internet leads etc).Nuts oh Hazelnuts:rotfl:0
