Indeed it does - just need some good sleep first and I'll be ready for it
Last night we booked Eurostar tickets to Paris in September - £69 returns really do exist if you book far enough in advance :T Now got the fun job of finding a hotel/ apartments - spent hours online last night and narrowed it down a bit (basically found some apartments at £480 for the five nights, so unless we find a hotel that looks really good for significantly less than that will be going for one of those). Need to keep an eye on Megabus/train for getting to London too.
Almost where I wanted to be on the study/ work front this week - I had planned to read 3 chapters of English book - managed one (though I might get more done over the weekend), make a start on Philosophy essay - which I have done, and do 3 chapters of the course I'm editing - which I have done.Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
Oh god, Paris in September as a couple ... how wonderful!
Remember the Virgin trains advance fares too tho - Liverpool to London is £11.50 single on those, they're a really good deal.
What book are you reading?2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
I'd forgotten about Virgin - will check those out! Got a 20% off voucher on the way from East Coast too for entering a competition.
Current books on the go..
For study purposes -
English - http://www.amazon.co.uk/English-History-Diversity-Change-Language/dp/0415131189
Philosophy - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Imagination-Creativity-M-Beaney/dp/0749217359 (and assorted background reading, lots of Kant at the moment - fascinating but aargh why not use simple words/sentences Immanuel!)
For pleasure - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cave-Jose-Saramago/dp/0099449153/Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
Wow! Only the history of the English language one is anything like my field ... always think Chaucer has a lot to answer for, the dialect of the south of England becoming English, so to speak - ole' Gawain was written at the same time, and sounds very different, practically unintelligible.2023: the year I get to buy a car0

It's absolutely fascinating reading about how the various languages/ dialects became the English we use. Must admit it is also filling in a lot of gaps for me with history too, something I've always been a bit rubbish at
Fixed linky now I think.Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
That one really is interesting. Important for me in my work - sometimes I have to take a leap of imagination to allow a client to find their own way ... and sometimes we work with things that are completely imaginary but have very real issues attached. Fascinating, whats out there.2023: the year I get to buy a car0

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWN! Eurgh, it's too hot to work today. Too hot to sleep last night as well.
Oh well, the weekend was good - got into 'stocking up' mode for some reason - bought loads of reduced organic meat in Waitrose on Friday, and then loads of veg at the market on Saturday. Spent Saturday afternoon wandering between the garden and the kitchen, and made a load of lovely pickled vegYesterday was much the same - studying in the garden (finished all the chapters I wanted to read, phew) and making cheese & onion and chicken & mushroom pasties for lunches.. Mr S made bread... and I bottled the ginger beer I started making last week - lots of fun feeding the starter until it started bubbling
Might be having a phonecall today about a job I put in a bid for on a freelancing site - slightly nervous about that although it's a fairly simple admin/ IT thing and I do know what I'm talking about with it.. just feels a bit like having an interview!Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
Oh and I have been wittering on about shampoo and green stuff over on Karma's thread - I did a very green house clean (well kitchen and bathroom clean) on Saturday too - using just water and lemon juice. Also picked some lavender and rosemary from the garden to put in vases in the house - smells nice
I am really aware of how much water we use at the moment though, especially with the hot weather and having to water the garden - trying not to shower unecessarily (although in this weather..!!) and thinking about ways of catching the bits that could be reused for the garden etc.Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
Wow! What an amazing weekend! You really are having a wonderful time doing all of this, aren't you! Pickles ... now there's a good idea. I've sort of given up for this year, with the garden suffering from having no attention paid to it before April or so, and unexpected big pieces of work needing to be done in the house, but I was looking at the ingredients for the Sainsbury's Basics mango chutney - and it really was basic, sort of mango and vinegar, more or less. The trick is to get the cheap veg like you did, isn't it...
You two are *such* an example of The Good Life!2023: the year I get to buy a car0
