Just been looking back at some old posts (anything to avoid work this afternoon), and came across this by me from June 2007 - 5 years ago!just been shopping, evil Tesco land was half price heaven today
Hoping this lot will last me nearly a fortnight (am at parents' for three days next weekend which will help!) with only a few extra bits of fruit, veg, etc. Breakfast is pretty much always toast as I can't face much else in the morning. So here's what I bought today and roughly what I plan to do with it, obviously all the meals involve adding pasta/ potatoes/ rice/ couscous (have last two in cupboard already) and veg or salad to the meat/ fish/ eggs, will also have some meals which involve just pasta/rice/potatoes/cousous with veg and cheese - currently love just roasting potatoes and a load of veg with garlic and spices, chuck some cheese in for the last few mins till it melts then mix it all up.. yum...
4 chicken thighs, British organic - reduced - £1.45 (4 meals, possibly more if I make some into curry or casserole)
1 pork chop, British organic - reduced - 76p (1 meal)
6 eggs - 54p (3 meals)
3 tins sardines - £1.05 (3 meals)
1 quiche - £1.00 (3-4 meals with salad)
400g Cathedral City cheddar - half price - £1.53 (should last 2 weeks, probably won't)
Large tub light soft cheese - 57p (use in creamy pasta sauce, on toast, on home made scones, probably last a week)
3kg pasta - £1.00 (I don't know where the hell I'm going to put this :rotfl:should last all month I reckon)
Olive oil - £1.05
Milk - 35p (don't use much of this, just in coffee and scrambled eggs/ omelettes, probably need some more next week)
4 value yoghurts - 29p (usually afternoon snack at work or dessert, will need another pack next week)
Butter - 53p
2 onions - 24p
750g organic potatoes - 95p
2 packs cherry tomatoes - reduced - 98p (will have some in salads over next couple of days and rest will be made into pasta sauce and frozen before they go off)
Pack of radishes - 28p (for salads)
Fennel - 60p (dunno what I'm going to do with this yet, but love it)
3 peppers - £1.29
2 garlic - 40p
Lemon - 19p
Lime - 15p
9 bananas - 76p (have one most days, will need to get some more towards end of the fortnight)
8 apples - 89p (as above)
Fresh rosemary - 55p (cos it was reduced and I had voucher for extra points on herbs)
Bread - 28p
Bottle of Calloway Sauvignon/ Shiraz/ Something like that - reduced - £3.49 (will be making me ramble on here later I expect!)
Total £21.17 and got 237 Clubcard points through using double/ extra points vouchers :j Nearly killed me carrying it all home though....
Not sure if I did manage to make it all last a fortnight or not! Comparing that with today though - well, prices will have gone up (sure you can't buy 3kg of pasta for £1 now!) but gosh that sounds so frugal, and I NEVER go to Tesco now! This week we've eaten...
Erm pizza at 10pm after getting back from the airport
Chilli con carne with cheese, sour cream and tortilla wraps
Pasta with chicken, home made wild garlic pesto and walnuts, with homegrown salad
Liver, brown bulgar wheat with nuts and herbs, homegrown turnips and chard, red wine & redcurrant sauce
Not to mention various bits of chocolate, wine and local liqueur that we brought back from holiday. No wonder I weigh more these days lol!Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
Brilliant
and you *really* want to avoid work today, don't you! Mind you, so do I ... can't tho, I have to be ready again in about 15m.....

Morning - Monday, and I still want to avoid work! Weekend seems to have gone really quickly. Saturday morning both me and Mr S did some studying/ course work, then cycled into town to pick something up from the PO, and get some lunch. Back at home, happened to pick up leaflet from the local city farm which was lying on the living room floor, and discovered that they were taking part in a local festival thing that afternoon - so walked down there and were amazed at the amount of things going on. Had a good chat with the people from the local cycling association - they gave me details of free lessons which I might go to seeing as I was vaguely terrified on the main road on Saturday. Then spotted a stall about a community farm project and of course went to have a look - ended up having a really good long chat with them and they invited us to go up there and camp with them on the site that night! We kind of chickened out of that but we have decided to sign up to the project - basically will be making a small investment in it, and also volunteering to work both on the land and helping out a bit with admin and stuff. Eventually the plan is for the site to provide a veg box scheme for about 200 families, employ a few staff to look after the growing (and the bees - there are bees!). So excited!!
Anyway, after that we had an ice cream and met a few friends of Mr S's who he hadn't seen for years, watched their band play a bit, but it started raining, so popped into the renewable energy centre for a look round (I want solar panels!) then headed home for a bit more studying and tea.
Sunday, not entirely sure what we did in the morning, but headed off to farmers market in the afternoon - quite a lot of the same stalls as the day before but we still managed to buy lots of cakeHome for lunch then MORE studying (I finished a section of my philosophy course and a chapter of English language book... Mr S finished his course :T).. then Sunday papers and tea and watching 'Edge of Darkness' (the latest in our "TV is mostly rubbish so lets resort to DVDs of old series which I was too young to watch when they were originally on, which also includes Cracker, GBH and State of Play).
Anyway, back to work, and trying to figure out a plan to fit in all the study and volunteering things over the next few months!Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -

What a lovely weekend! You're off to the wilds some day soon, aren't you
Well, if it's not soon, then at least there is a bit of the wilds (well farmland on the edge of town) that we can call (partly) our own!Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
Ooh forgot to add that we bought some sausages at the market on Sunday, and it turns out that their farm is next to 'our' farmDebt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0

You farmer you! I wish I still had access to those great smileys - I bet there was a farmer one2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Hmm I tried to find a picture of a farmer squirrel, but I couldn't. So here's one with a banjo instead
Just did my first bit of course editing/ writing for the voluntary thing! Have set myself the target of finishing this first one by the end of July, going to be mainly a lunchtime task I think - the course is fairly short although it is stretching my brain a bit as the subject matter is a bit too sciency for me. All a good challenge though
Oh yep, thought I'd better do a quick money update - £340 with 9 days till payday. Must remember to email second job people too re lack of pay!Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
Excellent with the banjo! But very boo-hiss to pay not appearing! We certainly want paying at the end of the thing that we do!2023: the year I get to buy a car0
