Good advice to shezam, Squizz - and, Shezam, I think lots of people start by butting in on somebody's diary! Its just the way it goes.

And Squizz - a trip abroad with 2nd job! You *have* to figure out a way you can go, of course you do, even if its holiday - you can't let that get away from you!

Thanks for your replies, no my wages get paid into my BOS account which is overdraft free. I do think I would be best with a spendng diary so will get that drawn up straight away. I'm not sure why I spend so much.... I think because I have been skint all month, when payday comes around I want to spoil myself and Mr M on nights out, dinner & drinks etc then before I know it i'm skint again and borrowing for the month. It's a vicious cycle!

Just started a new job in January, moved into a brand new house in November & got engaged in December so its all go. Decided this is the year for me to stop spending so much money on crap. I would love to have a littlebit left in my bank before the next payday!

Anyways, yay its Friday..... no plans for this weekend though, think I should take up a hobby as my weekends seem to involve either a night out and feeling hungover and sorry for myself the rest of the weekend, or junk food and movies. Think I might start knitting or sewing, a few of my friends do it and it it looks theraputic (sp?)

You ladies have any plans for this weekend? xxx

Sounds like a busy but exciting time! Have you set a date for the wedding?

Re the bank accounts, might be a plan to set up a monthly payment to the overdraft then - if it comes off just after you get paid you won't have time to spend it :D

Not sure about the weekend yet, weather's meant to be nice tomorrow so maybe get out for a hill walk or some gardening. Want to try and get started properly on my OU essay too.

I knit and sew now and then - I find the knitting therapeutic and the sewing frustrating because I'm not very good at it! It is nice seeing the finished results though :)

Not set a date fo the wedding yet but me & Mr M been together for 9 years (childhood sweetheart) so there is no rush, I'm thinking June next year but I understand if thats going to happen then I have to act fast and it the moment it seems like alot of planning which I can't be bothered with hehe.

Yeah i'm gonna set up that standing order today, i'm assuming I will be able to do that online, even if its £30 a month or something. The only thing I'm worried about is when I am skint I might dip into the A&L, I will need to snap my card hehe.

I did try knitting once but I got confused and gave up. Hehe I might just try and go to some more fitness classes, I'm really loving Zumba at the moment, you guys tried it out?

How lovely! Zumba, no, I'm self employed and the local class conflicts with a meeting I have, sadly. Just been emailing my sister about weekend plans - nothing, I'm too ill to be out of doors :( Hope yours is good tho.

Is it likely to be a big 'do' then Shezam or a quiet one? Either way weddings always sound like they take a lot of organising!

Go for it with the standing order :) Some people freeze their cards in a block of ice... so if you think you want to use it you have to wait for it to defrost which gives you time to reconsider.

Zumba looks fun :D I've not done anything fitness-wise for ages :o

Ooh Karma - re the trip, it would definitely involve taking holidays from main job, which would be fine, it just depends on the dates really. Will definitely try my best to go!

My wedding was organised in 6 weeks with Christmas and New year in between....we decided in the November to phone up and see when they could fit us in, they said 6 weeks so we went for it - got my dress (black velvet so I could wear it again - and I have, lots), DD's bridesmaid dresses and shoes (M&S christmas party wear) all in the Christmas sales. I didn't want flowers but DD's wanted something to carry so we got them a sparkly wand each.

We did our own catering by buying a couple of big joints of meat, making lots of lovely salads and I got up very early on the day itself and made 100 fresh bread rolls. The whole thing cost less than £800 including the rings (I'm not very keen on expensive jewellery). We had 40 people at the registry office and then about 60 back to the house for drinks and food.

Everyone commented on how lovely and relaxed the day was and how nice it was to not have to dress up to the nines. Was a lovely day and we couldn't have done it better if we'd have had all the money in the world.

  • Morning, how was everyone's weekends?

Saturday turned out pretty nice, so we got some serious gardening done - gave the evergreen tree at the front of the house a good haircut, and chopped down/ pulled out of the ground a couple that were taking up space in the veg patch. Gave the buddleia its spring pruning (aka chop down to a stump), and used the branches to build a little fence round the veg patch - Mr S's inspired idea.

We then popped in to have a cup of tea and had a plumbing explosion - pipe came loose under the sink and hot water sprayed everywhere.. so that was fun... anyway, plumbing sorted and water mopped up, we went back out to plant the last couple of fruit bushes and admire our handiwork :)

Quick dash round Sainsburys, including picking up one of the Valentine's meal deals, and home for a quiet night with some books then the Danish series 'The Killing' that's on BBC 4 at the mo.

Sunday was soggier, so we had a trip to B&Q, got some compost for starting seeds indoors, a chilli plant, purple pepper plant, and some little purple/ blue violas. Got a few things started on the kitchen windowsill and popped the violas in the flowerbed inbetween showers.. then a lazy afternoon reading again and a little bit of studying.

So this week, relatively quiet at work, an essay to attempt to write most of (hopefully with better grammar than that!).. my friend arrives on Friday so need to sort the spare room out a bit.. and that's about all I think.

Just had an email with a copy of the letter in the post from the DCA...
