As far as I know Scottish university is still free of tuition fee. So what prevent english or welsh student to study in Scotland for free then ?.

As above, not being Scottish. Free university tuition is one of the most unsustainable policies (along with the council tax freeze), and will be coming to an end eventually. I believe there has been a similar report done here, but I haven't really heard much about it. Nothing can be done until the elections next year anyway.0 -

As above, Wales used to offer students cheaper fees if they were Welsh but this ended for the 2010-2011 intakeWar does not determine who is right - only who is left.0 -
So my understanding is that Free tuition fee in Scotland is just for Scottish Student.
How about the English/Welsh Student whose parent are living and working in Scotland. Are notthey free from tuition fee if they choose to study in Scotland ?.

It's all about being ordinarily resident, not being 'Scottish'. So if you have lived in Scotland for at least three years prior to the start of the course, you are eligible for support from SAAS.0 -

I believe students from other EU countries can also be allowed free tuition. This on the basis that you cant differentiate within the EU.
This doesn't apply to English students as it is classed as a internal UK matter"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

Thank you for the info.
So I think the best way to avoid tuition fee is by planning in advance. Send your relatives, niece, children to do their GCSE, AS level in Scotland and they will later qualify to study at the university for free in Scotland.
This is a much better option rather than living universities with huge amount of debt.
There are a lot of good universities in Scotland.

What a great idea, we should all send our 14 year old children to study their GCSE's and A levels in Scotland. Can you suggest any housing rental agents who will let a property to a 14 year old? Perhaps we could start up some sort of flat share on MSE.
A list of Scottish state schools which accept students from Cornwall and Somerset would also be useful :rotfl:0 -

lol I wouldn't bother there is a growing opinion in Scotland that the current system is financially unsustainable and some sort of graduate contribution is required.
Scotland are in for a budget cut of 6% this next year so something will have to go."The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."
