How to Cancel my Orange Contract

Can anyone help. I have an 18 month contract with Orange, and am only 6 months in. I've now moved abroad, so I get no orange signal and am only on roaming, so don't want to use the phone because of the charges. Does anyone have any advice on how I might be able to cancel my contract without having to pay the remaining 12 months?

You'll have to pay off the remaining time, simple as that. They'll take off the vat and may give a small discount but that's about all. . .

  • Hi,

If you were able to find someone willing to take over your contract, you can do that once the balance on your account (if there is one) is paid up to date. this person would also have to agree to a credit check, and you should give them the phone if you choose to go that way, but that is another option.

    Cheers,

Be very careful if you were to follow this advice.

You would need to get written confirmation from the network that you had assigned the contract with their approval and that from date of transfer you would have no liability for the account.

I could, for example, agree to take over your contract, pass any credit checks you made, but from the moment I had the phone and sim, rack up £700 in calls overseas but you would still be liable for the charges to the network, unless they had agreed to the assignment. Sure, you would have a civil claim against me, but your ongoing debt would be to the network.

The main lesson here is that too many people are signing up for 18/24 month contracts when there are changes in personal circumstances that can occur over such a long period. For any mobile contract, unless you have the money in the bank, the only sure way to beat this problem - and you are not alone as any casual search of the forum will show - is to go sim only.
