T-mobile cancellation because moving abroad

Hi, I have had my mobile contract for around 12 months (it is an 18 month contract) and I will be moving abroad (to Germany) for 9 months.
Am I entitled to be allowed to cancel my phone contract without incurring any penalties because I am moving out of their service area?
I know that in France you have the right to cancel a mobile phone contract with no termination fee if you are leaving the country before the end of the minimum term and can prove it (utility bill from new address usually). Does a similar arrangement exist in the UK?
Also, does anyone know if you can transfer a UK based T-mobile phone contract to Germany?? T-mobile is a german company, they operate in Germany and you would think it would be possible to move the contract, phone, and payment over to Germany from the UK, with the appropriate adjustments in tariff etc for the remainder of my contract.
Any advice would be appreciated

You have any idea how much I will have to argue for this? I tried three years ago with Orange and moving to France (same thing, orange is the brand name of France Telecom) and they told me point blank there was no chance of a transfer. I ended up having to pay the contract.
Anyone have experience doing this, or have any idea what I can expect? Thanks0 -

From what I remember it is arranged through the retentions team.
You have to pay the cancelation fee to T-Mobile UK and this gets refunded once the account with T-Mobile Germany is set up0 -
Check your contract, but I suspect that you have agreed to pay the full 18 months line-rental for the UK service.
If you pay the remaining six months line-rental, you can probably cancel the contract immediately, but I would ask T-Mobile if they can either suspend your account while you are abroad and re-activate it on your return or transfer you to a German T-Mobile contract. There's probably not a lot you can do if they say "no" (again, check what agreed in the contract).
Even though it may appear that T-Mobile are one big organisation, some companies like to operate their different subsidiaries as if they were separate companies. So T-Mobile UK may want to bill T-Mobile Germany if you get your contract changed - that may well complicate matters.
Anyway, hope you get something sorted out :-)0 -
Thanks for your help. I hope that I will be able to sort it!0
