Not been cold enough for it yet here....I still haven't got my heating on properly!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Be aware of applying for this £120 rebate from your energy company if you are already on one of their social tariffs, e.g British Gas Essentials Tariff. I am on this tariff and if they move you over to the new scheme, they also change you onto a standard tariff which costs you a lot more. I have worked out that for me my annual cost will increase by over £400 a year, yet I will only get the £120 rebate, leaving me substantially worse off. According to British Gas, existing social tariff customers will eventually transferred over to the new scheme, so it is inevitable that it will happen.

This new scheme looks great in principle but because the greedy energy companies are going to do away with their social tariffs because of it, thousands of customers who are already in fuel poverty are going to be a lot worse off. If you are currently on a social tariff, my advice is to keep your head down, don't go asking to be moved onto the new scheme, you most likely end up being worse off. It is just another money making scheme for the energy companies. If you don'r believe me, just check what you pay now on a social tariff then calculate how much that same energy usage will cost on a standard tariff, subtract the £120 rebate and you will get a shock!
  • Hi MCLF

I agree with our advisor. Always best to ask the question and see what happens.

Best of luck with your application. Hope it all works out for you.

    Hi,

I'm currently with E.ON and mum called up about this warmer home thing weeks ago on my behalf (I'm not good on the phone). They said my name is in the system and that they would get back to me. I believe I am entitled as I am on Incapacity Benefit, Income Support, Middle Rate DLA and Low Rate DLA.

I have not heard anything yet, do I have to apply or is it paid automatically?

It's a month since I applied online and I haven't received an acknowledgement. I'd feel happier if I'd had an email saying they'd be in touch.

    Hi MCLF and HappyChappy

Just thought I'd pop on with a quick update.

Customers in the Core Group will be identified and contacted directly by the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP). The DWP will then tell us and we'll apply the rebate.

The DWP began writing to eligible customers on 14 November 2011. Once the rebate has been applied, we'll also write to customers to let them know.

We have until 31 March 2012 to apply the rebate but we're aiming to complete payments to the Core Group by the end of this December.

For customers in the Broader Group, we aim to have the rebate applied by 31 March 2012. Again, we'll write to the relevant customers to confirm the rebate has been applied.

Rebates to both Core and Broader Group customers will be applied via their current payment method.

Customers who pay on demand or by Direct Debit will see the rebate applied to their electricity account.

Those on our Stay Warm or Warm Assist tariffs will receive a cheque.

Customers with Prepayment Meters will receive vouchers. These can be exchanged for credit on their payment devices at their chosen Paypoint, Payzone or Post Office.

Hope this is of interest guys.

Thanks for the timescales, Malc. That helps a lot. :)
