Not Using your indicators?

for me its not so much lack of indicating that i find an issue - it's more incorrect signals. The classic one is to signal right around the roundabout and then the right's still ticking away when they decide to take the exit off the roundabout. or signalling left, then going right. or signalling right then going straight on. Seriously, there are some that are just too stupid to drive.
the only time i don't signal is when there is noone around me - then signalling is only of use to me and I don't need to inform myself of where I'm going, i already know that.0 -

Never have I said any of those things. Grow up.0 -

Behnd the red post box on the corner under the tree on the righthand side?0 -
Well if they are going to do a maneuvre where they would benefit from an indication, you indicate.
As for what happens when someone suddenly appears-to quote my IAM instructor "people don't suddenly appear, people just fail to notice them approaching" or words to that effect.Re: the what happens if someone appears at a side road/roundabout/whatever when you for example want to turn off-you indicate, and its no real difference to if you had done it out of force of habit as there is a delay between indicator flashes anyway.
I'm not for one minute saying all these people not indicating when you feel they should are advanced drivers, obviously some if not most will just be regular drivers who cannot be bothered to indicate at all.0 -
It still comes down to the fact that there are motorists, some contributing to this thread who believe they are infalible. One day chaps, one day :eek:I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -

Not a single one could be a member of the IAM surely.
The consensus from IAM members on here appears to be they would be 100% certain to have seen me, will no possibility of error, and therefore all would be therefore indicating. They have all been trained to see me, the only reason they wouldn't see me is if I wasn't there.cyclonebri1 wrote: »It still comes down to the fact that there are motorists, some contributing to this thread who believe they are infalible. The IAM don't help nowadays either.
Their website is starting to look like the AA website.
(top tip from them "In cold weather, clear windscreens of condensation or ice before setting off. Always give yourself extra time, to ensure visibility is at an optimum before starting your journey ")
The website has no figures on how less accidents IAM members have, there are no stats to prove anything. It's just a charity advertising driving lessons nowadays.
The testimonials on page 1 come from 17 year olds who have done it probably as an alternative to passplus, page 2 is from members happy to have their confidence back.
Doesn't inspire me to rush out to join the group. I'm sure it's good for people that need that type of instruction, but if it's leading to a feeling of invulnerability based on your own observation skills, it's not an attitude I'd ever get on with.
The IAM do say they set out to give drivers confidence as one of their aims, maybe they should read this thread and realise they are pushing this too far, and trying to instill a belief in super human powers.0 -
The IAM is more or less a cut down version of what the Police traffic officers have to go through, minus things like the skid pan and high speed pursuit driving.
Perhaps those who doubt the IAM need to see the video's on Youtube.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Fair enough, (actually it's the metropolitan police).
I have to agree, I don't usually notice the indicators on police cars, I tend to notice all the other lights first.
If I ever buy a yellow blue and white evo with blue lights and sirens, and have traffic stop and give way to me, I'll join.
Until then though, as most cars won't normally stop for me, I'll keep on indicating.0 -
What an interesting thread, I thought it was just me who had noticed how many people did not indicate, obviously not.
I would comment that if there are so many of us who have noticed and are annoyed by this lack of courtesy and information regarding a drivers intentions WE MUST BE THERE not out of sight so indicators SHOULD be used so we know where/if you are turning!
I grew up in the days when you had to have the window wound down and put your arm out of the window to signal so using a finger to push a lever to show my intentions is certainly not too onerous.0
