Brilliant on the decluttering! When I moved, I was really shocked to find out how much old school stuff I'd kept - the ones from when I was 5 are quite sweet, actually, but there's books and books of boring notes on the Risorgimento and whatnot - I mean, really, who needs it!

The sewing machine is a problem, isn't it - its almost certainly not going to be used, but just looked at .... and really, is it worth that? If it was an elderly Singer with a treadle, then maybe it would be worth transforming it into something, but it sounds like its a 70s electric something .... if I want to declutter something and am feeling a little reluctant, I take photos and wait a bit to see how I feel - it really helps, and at least the photos are on the computer and only take up space on the hard disc!

  • Well done on the decluttering, I am trying to tackle my junk too. Redid wardrobe - anything not worn in 12 months has gone. So good to be able to put away the stuff I do actually wear! (I do have boxes and boxes to get through, but one step at a time!).

Think you're right about selling on the sewing machine, sounds like it takes up a lot of space and you're not going to use it. Hopefully you have other things you can keep and actually use from your grandmother. I'm sure she wouldn't want you to be keeping it out of duty.

    Morning all,

Operation Declutter is firing on all cylinders. The living room actually looks far worse than when we started - but that's what usually happens so just working through it.

Came up with a brilliant plan re the sewing machine table; I loathe our pc table with a vengeance - it's huge & has lots of shelves & places to put stuff, which of course means we do.

Sewing machine table is the same height & half the size of old pc table but perfect size for the monitor & keyboard sooooooo I've covered it in a throw that blends into the walls & the other pc bits can all be stashed underneath it & hidden from view :)

The old pc table is going to be taken outside & shot & then laid to rest at the tip when it reopens ( oh please let it be soon). All the files & papers that used to be stuffed on the shelves are going to be sorted through today.

As I'm desperate for the old pc to live another 11 months, I realised I should probably do some decluttering there too so spent much of last night uninstalling old files, doing disk cleanups & am now defragging - get me :rotfl:.

The final leg of the laundry relay is in progress & the caffeine has just kicked in so I'd better get on while the enthusiasm & energy is running at peak ( full moon ).

    Bye for now
    xx

Hey thats a great idea! Good for you - I've done a little bit similar :D with my old table, where I've used the leaves for shelves, and I've still got the main square metre or so of beautiful, solid wood that was the actual table top. I think Wol still has the legs and base for stuff to do with the piggies :D

Great minds on resourceful reuse of existing furniture KC :D

It's been a weird kind of day here.

Clutter corner is no more :j it has returned to its previous empty space & just looking at it makes me feel calm.

For a very brief period, I had a dining table again, until DD remembered that she actually quite liked the doll house that I'd so carefully packed away a few weeks ago & thought how brilliant it would be to put it on the table so it doesnt 'get in the way' . Quite right, it doesnt get in the way of anything. Other than the use of the table :rotfl:.

The old pc table was dismantled & is now stacked up behind the shed, I filled the dustbin up with 3 bags of random rubbish, filled the paper recycling bag, started off another bag for charity shop & have managed to donate a pair of fab boots to my sister. I've had them for a couple of years & love them, but to be honest they're too big so I rarely wear them :o. I'm also chucking out a pair that are tatty but I have kept for years because they were my 'gig boots'. I'm now down to just 6 pairs.

Halfway through the delcuttering I suddenly realise how much I hate the old monitor which is the size of Belgium, so off to pc world we went where I snapped up a new one for £79, rushed it home, connected it all up & cannot get the damn thing to work . I spent about 2 hours trying every possible cable connection, updating the drivers, installing manually & playing the stupid user guide dvd. And still the infuriating slab of uselessness quickly flashes up its brand & then smugly tells me that there's "no signal" before turning itself off again with boredom & contempt written all over it's blank screen :mad::mad:.

Well, if that isnt karmas way of telling me that either I'm very stupid & have missed some vital step, or that I should be buying a laptop for DD or that it really isnt possible to stretch a £90 tax rebate as far as I'm attempting to, then I dont know what is.

Of course, it could just be that it's too techie for this pc. All I know is that it has a week to get it's act together or it's going back to where it came from :p .

Needless to say, all this faffing around means the paperwork didnt get sorted through :(. I tried really hard to get DD to do it but she was far too concerned with minor details such as only being 11 & not having a clue what I was on about, & making cakes with blue & green icing on _pale_.

Fortunately, I dont have any excitement planned for this week so can devote myself to getting fit & tidy. Every night :undecided.

Clearly, as it's nearly 1am I should not have had a coffee after dinner tonight, but I did manange to hold my ground & not go over my bid on the fab ebay coat. Bidding got a bit hairy in the last few minutes & the price doubled to over £55 in under 2 mins, which was £20 more than my top bid, so I was free to nip over to Amazon & purchase a wii fitplus with board for the bargainous sum of a mere £62.99 . Told you I was stretching that rebate somewhat ;)

The virgin CC minimum payment went out today & a very messy sum it was, so in the spirit of all things clean & tidy here, I swept it up to a nice round £90 payment. Total debt is now £3800 & the chances of making it disappear completely in 18 weeks are getting more remote with every week that passes.

I'm panickcing about christmas & would love to know at what point exactly, I decided that I wasnt going to save anything towards it & just 'wing it'.

    What an idiot.

Monday again & I'm hoping that it's just Grumpy & myself in the office tomorrow morning.

    Need some sleep now

    night night
    xx

Yep, I've done it - the new monitor is up & running :j

Having asked everyone at work what might be the problem & received about 5 different replies & possible solutions I was on the verge of giving up when techie IT guy arrived. I told him the problem & he told me the solution in less than a minute. Basically, I needed to change the resolution while the old monitor was still connected, then connect the new one & it should work ... hey presto it DID :D. I still cant get the old speakers to work but happy to buy cheapo new ones to go with the cheapo new keyboard that is very quiet & has many keys in different places than my old one so it's taking ages to type !

If you think this is all exciting, then imagine our amazement & joy when a delivery man turned up with the virgin hub. I cant possible cope with too much techno geekage in one day, so will attempt that tomorrow - it involves rewirinrg cable to the tv & setting up laptop as well, so I may be offline for weeks ;)

Other than that it's been an ok day. I weighed in this morning & have indeed lost the 2lbs I was hoping for so feeling both rewarded for effort & inspired to see what I could achieve if I stick with daily exercise ( rather than sloping off towards the sofa by wednesday )

It's been a NSD & is now just a week until payday. Still not much home-job work about & I have to buy 4 books of raffle tickets & send DD in with a filled up 'lucky dip bag' on friday :( & the poor thing fell over in the playground today & has gashed her knee & one hand. I'm sure she'll heal, but I dont think the trousers will be so lucky.

I've done the superfit workout & had a lovely relaxing bath so am now off to bed to make up for lack of sleep last night. I will need my brain in gear to get the lappie configured - DD all excited too as she now thinks this desktop is hers. I think I may need it to do surveys still but will keep that quiet for now ;)

    night night

    Good evening gorgeous peoples,

finally, I have reached my own personal nirvana; mse & bed at the same time :j

I raced home from work to get the new hub set up, the wiring took about 3 minutes but actually getting it registered & connected took 3 separate phone calls, an hour and 5, yes 5 separate virgin techie (& some clearly not techie at all) peeps before the final guy realised that the problem was the hub had got bored & put itself to sleep. Being a big fan of The IT Crowd, I should have known that it merely required being turned off & on again :o.

Having got that all up & running DD & I finally had the great unveiling ceremony for my new laptop. Her little fingers were positively twitching with excitement. I'm still learning how to operate it as it's quite a different os than what I'm used to, but I plan to practice plenty so I'll soon find my way around it. Not having all my favourite sites & passwords will be time consuming at first & I've gone from needing sunglasses to use the desktop, to needing binoculars to see the screen on here :rotfl:. Not sure what's going on with the smilies either ?

Had to almost drag DD to her room - we both spent ages making faces & crying with laughter at the photo booth. That alone is worth the long wait - will amuse me for hours ;) It also made her forget all about her injuries - she's fine thanks Souk :)

On to finances & after the slight spree at the weekend, I've now had 2 NSDs in a row & was really pleased when the wii fit arrived at work today - excellent service from amazon :)

I havent managed any exercise today but now that all the computing & networking stuff is sorted I can concentrate on work, diet & fitness for the rest of the week.

Will need to get more bread tomorrow so no NSD but hopefully a fair bit of home-job work will be available.

Right, must get to sleep soon as I'm struggling to get out of bed at 7,

    bye for now
    xx

ps - all smilies appear when I submitted post - so ignore previous query.
