re. slow cookers, they also do risotto - saves much stirring :) I picked up a small one in the local co-op for about £7 and it's fine - not hugely complex things so suspect not much difference between the cheap and expensive ones.

And sympathies re. the Christmas relatives situation :( :grouphug: - I second Karmacat's suggestion!

Oh Lula, how annoying of the rellies....

And quite frankly practically everything in Tatco is half price, makes me think they make up high prices so they can do half price offers once Christmas rush starts ( but that is too cynical right????)

At least they didn't try and get you to bid on one of those Heston Blumenthal Waitrose ones which are going for £50 on ebay!!!!

The others have the right idea. My parents and sister are coming to me for the big day and they've already told me what they're bringing. My sister has made the cake and is feeding it properly!!

My mum also said that they're going to give me some cash towards it but I don't expect it as I've eaten plenty of Xmas dinners at theirs in the past!!

I bought my tree today and have it on my balcony soaking in a bucket of water which apparently makes them last longer.

I've spent quite a bit on Xmas so far but I'm hoping that these things will last me a long time as this is my first Xmas in my flat.

2011 is definitely my year of being frugal.

On a totally different topic, if anyone in England or Wales is looking to earn extra cash next March / April / May - it is worth checking out the Census jobs website. They pay around £10 an hour and you can work full, part or very part - time. I've gone for the very part-time option which is 15 hrs a week and is in the evenings and weekends.

It's a short term contract of around 6 weeks but there are bonuses and things as well. Here is the link: money making

Just go to apply now and put in your postcode and how far you're willing to travel and it will bring up the census taking jobs. The first stage is an easy 10 mins of just putting in address, name etc and answering questions on rights to work in UK. Don't even ask for NI no. or previous work history.
I've got my own flat :j:j

Now I have to pay the bills

And feed my interiors addiction ;)

Hi, can I join in the party :D

RosaBernicia - lovely to hear from you :j hope all is going well with you ?

Newlysingle - hello & welcome to the fabulous madness :hello

Museumworker - I'm thinking you might be meaning Spear & Jackson ?

Makeup - I've already checked out the census job & like you opted for the 15 hours a week, thanks for bringing it to everyone's attention, and no, you're not being cynical about prices, that's exactly what I think - Woolies used to do it all the time

I just have cheapo garden centre ones, but would let a full set of the 'vintage' Spear & Jackson s ... if my veg garden gets organised ( she says, as though it was going to dig itself :rotfl:) I might treat myself to a new piece for each succesful crop I harvest :D

Great ideas there for dealing with the rellies from you all :A. There will definitely not be any 50 blooming squid christmas puds at our feast  I've actually put all the food to the back of my mind for now, I have other things to concentrate on.

1 - Make, write, send/deliver christmas cards - not done last weekend as I was too busy dragging the black dog round

2 - Buy a birthday gift for the friends who's party DD is going to on sunday

3 - Finish my present shopping

    4 - Get wrapping

Yesterday was a NSD & I didnt get on here last night as I did my home-job work & then got my lazy @rse into gear for a superfit workout. I think the break might have done me some good as I was really working hard at it & now that I know all the sequences & steps I find I can get into the rythm more. I was only capable of a bath & bed afterwards but then annyoyingly woke up at 3.59 this morning & took ages to get back to sleep so still struggled to get up today.

Work was fine - Goblin gave herself a day off & as Highly Annoying is on holiday I'm covering his work & loving it as I do it all my way & the guys dont seem to mind at all that I'm doing a 'boys job' :D

The best thing was that my gorgeous new coat arrived - well, new to me but actually from ebay, although frankly, in immaculate condition - beautiful soft wool in a lovely warm cheery but not garish pink colour. Fully lined & with side pockets which I think are essential for slimming down my hips. All for the bargaintastic sum of £21 :j

Today was another NSD & I did the workout with weights - I think my legs are going to hurt tomorrow :(. I had a bath & then watched Miranda - I love that show :rotfl:

I've completed some surveys & got screened out of a load too, but that's just how it goes some days.

I've actually measured myself tonight & will now take measurements each week as well as weighing myself. I was quite shocked at the measurements, but it does explain why I struggle to get my jeans on :o. I'm aiming to lose 4 inches from my chest, 4 inches from my waist, 5 inches from my hips & 5 inches from my thighs - they're the beasts that really upset me so I'd like to get some serious walking into my weekly routine too.

I've decided to buy loads of real ribbon for wrapping gifts this year as I can then salvage it all for reuse - the shiny curling stuff does look pretty but I dont think it's salvageable as it always get creased & real ribbon comes in so many different colours.

I actually like the idea & look of plain brown paper which has been embossed, so might investigate the cost of setting that up next year. Think I have plenty of paper for this year.

Right, determined to be asleep before midnight so heading off to bed with my book,

    G'night
    xx

Some good news for you in that Lula! Just a littley - I like the look of plain paper wrapping as well - if I'd been organised this year, that was one of the crafty things I was going to do - not embossing necessarily, tho that sounds interesting - but potato stamping :) and that Japanese craft that Alys Flowers did, of bashing a leaf so that the colour transfers onto the paper beneath.

Aw thanks :o:) ... all is well, just slightly manic - DFW has taken a bit of a back seat as I decided the MSc and job and job uncertainties are quite enough to stress about at one time :rotfl: . Will need kick up behind next October when course is finished and can go back to full time hours, so will be lurking about and quietly paying off easily doable bits til then :D

BTW re. garden tools, I picked up some ash handles/ stainless steel ones from Wilkos this summer and they are just as solid as the S&J ones at less than half the price. (I love the proper wooden handled stuff, just looks and feels so much nicer than the coloured coated steel ones.)

Hello you, never mind about gardening stuff - you know the word accoutrements which is very grand :D

DD & I were trying out some new words this evening - she has a thesaurus & was testing me

She had choir before school this morning so I used the extra 20 minutes to fuel up on my way to work - £33.70 so not too bad & it should last me until next payday although I have a fair bit of whizzing about to do in the next 3-4 weeks.

Lovely client came in to work today bearing a huge bag full of cookies ... it would have been rude to refuse so I did another workout this evening. My legs were really weak & wobbly & I kept losing my balance :o hopefully that's just an after effect of the vicious sculpting workout yesterday.

Really tired tonight as DD1 decided to finally text me a reply to my previous text (3 days earlier) at 3.30 this morning . I was not very :), it took me ages to get back to sleep & I do wish she would realise that not everyone works night shifts .

Bizarrely, I've also had an email from the distant rellies about getting provision in for christmas - that'll be the collective thought power of you guys then :T. They're quite happy to chip in, but just want to know what to get so I've come up with a plan to allocate everyone a list as you all suggested & we can then get together & share funds out - I realyy want the cost to be shared fairly equally so no one feels hard done by ( Especially not me ;))

Can hardly keep my eyes open so will report back again tomorrow, hopefully with news of increased funds savings.

    Bye for now
    xx
