I dont follow it too closely to be honest, I was checking out slow cookers at the same time - wow I do live an exciting life
I'm very keen to get my grocery bill down & love the idea of a machine that does the actual cooking bit while I'm out at work. I'm ashamed to admit that I've never made a casserole in my life
I'm a bit hacked off now, a relative who recently split from their OH, is still spending christmas with them & I asked what gift I could get. I was given a link to a site & while the actual gift is fairly inexpensive, the delivery charge is a flat £7.
I think that demonstrates just how ingrained this money saving lark has become - I hate paying delivery charges & would rather buy an extra item to qualify for free delivery :rotfl:.
Now in my 'jamas & pondering on what a boring life I lead & trying to ignore that restless feeling ...
I need change.0 -
Lula, get a slow cooker. I couldn't be without mine. Have a think about what you want to change and then we can think about how to do it.'The road to a friends house is never long'0

I'm watching Michael Buble on Itv and it has totally changed my view of him. He seems like such a genuine guy. Really good fun!I've got my own flat :j:j
Now I have to pay the bills
And feed my interiors addiction0 -
Interesting the whole slow cooker thing cos I know that on here they are totally loved but the day or so on Guardian website was interesting as they had an article about them and quite a few folks seemed to think that everything tasted the same!I've got my own flat :j:j

I'd like to :
Look 10 years younger
Weigh 10lbs less
Earn £10,000 more
Trouble is I'm a lazy, workshy, biscuit-munching old trout :rotfl:
Think I'm just having another attack of reality & time's relentless march onwards. Or could just be that I havent had any booze for weeks
Interesting views on the slowcooker, as you say makeup - they are revered here, but I did wonder at the book that claimed there were over 200 different recipes you could do in a slow cooker ? I've always thought they were really for doing casseroles, stews, soups etc.
I might just get a really cheap small one to start with. I'm not really a fan of daily cooking - another chore as far as I'm concerned- so thought it might help me to produce cheaper & decent nutritious food that eases my conscience somewhat & with little effort.

Yup, I agree with Purpletea
I *do* think slow cookers are good, I've had one forever. Nowadays, I use it to cook beans in, and then I use the beans to make different things, or just chuck some in with the pasta at the end so that I can have some extra nutrition. When I was a meateater and went out to work, yep, it was wonderful there too - braising steak in juice (lotsof it) that you then thicken up to gravy at the end, it was so tender it was wonderful cooked that way. And puddings too, you really can do them in there. There might be one on freecycle for you to try?2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Morning all,
Purple Tea - your post really made me giggle :rotfl:
Karmacat - I've seen a very cheap - £15 - 1.5 litre volume one on amazon. It had very good reviews so I might try that to start. Dad has also been considering getting one so if I dont get on with it I'll pass it on to him & if I do, then I'll buy him one too.
Am feeling quite cross with myself at the moment; cant seem to shake this negativity off. I have been immobilised by my own black dog. All the positive & proactive things I could be doing such as;
setting up spreadhseets & transferring stuff onto the new lappie
transferring info to new diary
actually working towards a DFD
planning the veg garden
doing creative stuff etc ... I just cant seem to do.
The christmas gift list now seems endless & affects the regular CC payment run.
The family are really getting to me ( havent got Hypno s protective bubble firmly attached yet). I'm not getting any replies to emails or texts about arrangements for christmas day, and yet it seems that they're all intending to turn up & expect a meal. Initially the plan was for everyone to contribute some amount to the cost to spread it evenly. It now appears that it will be mainly my Dad & I who pay, & I am not happy. Catering for 2 meals for 10 people was most definitely not in my December budget.
The ongoing drama between 2 relatives is as yet unresolved. I'm on the periphery & trying so hard not to get involved & yet knowing that what has occurred is definitely not right.
My grandmothers health & accommodation is another concern & situation that needs to be tackled soon. It will create yet more tension within the family as the situation is complex.
I feel quite keen about running away from it all & disappearing at the moment, but DD has just made me a coffee & brought me some cake for breakfast so instead I will get up, get on with the chores & get ready to face the week ahead at work which will be truly awful.0 -

Thanks lovely Shoesy :A
I'm going to start with the ironing as having clean clothes to wear might help.
I pledge to do a work out today as well - we all know that exercise lifts the mood.
Lack of it this week is possibly responsible for my humour crash
bye for now
