  • My sister lost £1000 when farepak collapsed. She thought there was no chance as she had paid cash every month. She got a letter from her agent today. Luckily the agent had paid for some of it on her debit card and has recieved a refund from her bank. So all her customers have got 23% back. My sister got £230 which is a lot more than she thought she would get. Especially after hearing that its likely customers will only get 4% back. Another thing I read today (not sure if it has been mentioned already) is that Marks & Spencer have not only donated £250,000 but are also refunding all their staff that lost money with M&S vouchers. I thought this was very good of them and wondered if any other employers were doing this for their people??

I wonder if anyone can advise me if i can get a refund. I paid all my payments via my Switch card on their website. £230 in all.

I know some people have had refunds by paying by Visa and Direct Debit but has anyone got a refund when they've paid by Switch.

    I bank through first direct
  • Bank of scotland sent us a letter out the blue yesterday with a form to fill in with the dates and amounts we had paid to farepak by visa debit we sent it straight back yesterday and got a full refund put into our account today.

There is a link on the https://www.farepakresponse.org.uk site for you to let them know. :T
  • Although I think Farepack are scummers, I think its lovely to see these huge companies putting their hands in there pockets and giving money back to people out of the goodness of their hearts. It makes a change, thats for sure!!

Has your card got the visa symbol on it?
If it has your'll be okay has it's classed as a visa card which can be accept almost everywhere, I'm almost sure all debit cards are now either Visa or Mastercard, might be worth ringing your bank either way.
    Goodluck

It's great also to hear about everyones refunds, I've already told the Farepak response site about my small refund, the more refunds that are made and declared the more money/vouchers will be available for those that havnt got anything back.

Not sure about that, I read of some agents getting refund through direct debit, I'd phone bank and ask. Does anyone know if you get a refund by paying through internet banking?
  • DIRECT DEBITS
Having originally called my bank (Alliance & Leicester) and being told that I could call after the 30th November to put in an Indeminity Claim which looked hopeful for me to claim back the money lost via Direct Debit, I have since been in contact with them via email to be told time and time again, I haven't got a claim. I suggested they call the Administrators, which they say they did, and this is their reply:

I have called the administrators and they are unaware of any way that funds can be reclaimed from direct debit payments and it seems that only debit card payments can be reclaimed.

From our point of view the involvement is that we as your bank have accepted a direct debit mandate agreed between yourself and Farepak. We can only try to reclaim amounts under the direct debit indemnity scheme if the payments were claimed after cancellation or the mandate is not proper to you and unfortunately neither of these apply.

I do have the greatest of sympathy with you however we cannot reclaim your funds and you will need to pursue other avenues.

Could I please ask that for those who got money back via the Abbey, please can they make contact with their bank and them to ring the other banks.

    Thanks.
