Its nothing but daylight robbery. I am so sorry for everyone involved.
There can be nothing more cruel than "stealing" money from decent hard working folks who did everything right trying to save for christmas instead of putting it on the credit card.

GMTV have been doing a big story on this subject this morning..hope something positive comes from that.

My 10 year old son wrote me a note last night saying..." Dear Mum, Here is £1.62 for Christmas...." He had emptied his piggy bank.

Not much consolation I know, but your son has given you something far more precious than money.

In the meantime, my thoughts are with you all. I can't help thinking that the company directors will have a very comfortable Christmas.

I am sickened by how people who thought they were putting a bit of money by for Christmas have been swindled.
It feels as if they have been mugged by Santa!

I never fancied the idea of hampers and vouchers so have not been affected personally but feel gutted for the people who put their trust in those lowlifes.

This may be a silly idea but I have piggypoints from Pigsback which can be exchanged for vouchers in Boots etc, and it did not cost a penny.

Maybe people could investigate the thread - it is in the freebies section.

Dorothy Perkins has a girls night where a £2 charity donation will get you a goodie bag worth £30 and each purchase will give you a necklace or somthing - wine and food supplied free.

Boots are also having a Christmas night where advantage card holders get wine - three for two and extra points on their card.

Sometimes it is worth having a look in small charity shops - I got a gorgeous evening bag for £1 - that was £10 in Tescos and it seemed brand new!

Anyone who has a load of books in the house could perhaps sell some through Amazon - there is a thread under ebay etc on here giving advice.

Sorry if everybody already knows all this but I am assuming that every penny counts and every little will help.

So sorry for everyone who has been cheated in this way.

I'm another who has emailed Watchdog, from a tiny snippet in the weekend papers this story is gaining a lot of publicity!!

I'm still in a state of shock, as I said earlier in this thread, compared to many others I've lost a pittance but to me it is a lot of money, I have cried, gotten angry and felt totally hopeless since the news was broken to me on Sunday.

I know it's not about the presents and money and my son has actually said 'so long as we're together it doesn't matter' but it does matter, I was ecstatic at the thought of finally buying him his 'big' present (a PSP) something he's been after for ages and now I can't, it just makes me very sad!!

I shall never go with a company like this again, even though I tend to dip into the savings account I shall be putting my money into the bank next year!!

Where are the idiot, thieving scum, responsible for this mess, I notice when approached by GMTV last night they wouldn't even open the front door. I say send the police in! This is theft, fraud whatever you want to call it. So mant OAP's, children, parents have been left heartbroken two months before Christmas. This can't be allowed, surely not.
  • I am disgusted that Farepak have gone into liquidation at this time of year. Almost everyone has paid up or would've done in the next fortnight and were expecting that they would have a great chrimbo.
These companies prey on people with limited funds and the people who use the company will not have a back up themselves. They must be worrying so much about what should be the happiest time of the year. They try to do things right by paying up front rather than getting in debt and this happens.
I'd be curious to know where all the thousands of pounds that loyal customers paid in have gone.
I feel for Farepak agents who are encouraged to sell these hampers and vouchers to family and friends.

I took this from the European Home Retail site on their page about Farepak
Trust is a critical element of the Farepak system. We promise to help our customers to save up for a great Christmas, whether it’s a feast for the table or gifts round the tree.
    What a joke!!!

luckily my hamper isnt involved (park) have just phoned and they confirmed but, i still have £60 to pay and am thinking of paying it and asking for the vouchers/stuff early.....next year i wont be saving with them..........

my sister is £6000 down and has the job today (on top of the death of our mother yesterday) of telling her customers - how can she do that? i totally feel for her......it was going to be a hard xmas this year as it was but now it will be much worse for her - we will have to rally round and make sure her son doesnt go without......

my thoughts are with everyone going through this

  • Between me and my sister in law we have lost £900, the agent has about 30 people she collects for and is in a terrible state. Christmas is on a very tight budget now, want to know name of receivers/administrators can't sit back and do nothing. Prob fruitless task getting stuck in but will make me feel a bit better than just waiting for that miracle!!!! any ideas on finding out who this other lot are????
  • who's Hita? Looking back on stock exchange stuff they knew in april as couldn't provide end of year reports, but quote "will continue to trade in line with expectations" but were already in crisis talks with lenders then, if only they had some morals.......

Found Hita have sent a direct email to neil@hendersonbegg.karoo.co.uk, on contact us page of HITA
