If I want to spend £99 on a HDMI cable, then I will. Yes it is 1.4 and ethernet aimed at 3D viewing. So i really do not give a monkeys about how you can get cheaper cables. I posted this a warning about the the shocking state of affairs of Dixons after sales service and not for fools to question me on my decided purchases.

Ethernet? Aimed at 3D viewing? For a start, ethernet relates to networking, not HDMI. And it's HDMI - it's digital. Meaning it either works or it doesn't - a two quid cable from Home Bargains would give you exactly the same quality. Was it a Monster cable by any chance? MSNBC did a report on this.

HDMI 1.4 is a bit different to standard HDMI. It can handle more data for one thing, allowing for two 1080p images to be sent to the tv simultaneously (for 3d) rather than a more common hdmi cable which can support 3d but at a lower resolution.

Also I think it has to be hdmi 1.4 to support ARC or something... there's been a lot of stuff about what 1.4 can do that <1.3 can't but I can't remember right now.

    Here Here - Bravo

Is the advice about distance selling any use - I guess so as they are an internet company. Even if it doesn't you still have a good case and should be able to get a full refund.

Yes indeed, I really do have the ball in my court but just fed up with dealing with them. The TV has already risen by £300 since my purchase. I have been checking all retailers. Just loathed to demand a refund and have to spend more to get a replacement.

So why so hostile when people point out £100 is extortionate for any hdmi?

Like i said, cancel this at least (seeing as you havnt got it yet) and order any 1.4 HDMI off amazon (cheapest is £2.99 exc delivery).

As for the main issue, cab will help, but also try instore as they may offer better advice on what to do or who to speak to.
    Back by no demand whatsoever.

I don't think the hostilities were aimed at people like you, just the few who are out to insult people here, and make the OP out to be stupid for paying £99 for a cable. There is a difference in types of cable and it can make a difference to signals. Whether the Amazon cable is as good as the £99 one, I don't know - most of these things are based on the law of diminishing returns - the more you pay, the less you see improvement, but if the OP is happy with the cable, assuming she eventually gets one, that's up to her.

I really hope she sorts this out as the Dixons group can be a real pain when things go wrong.

Like i said, whilst this would matter in an analouge cable, digital makes no difference!

    One example is tv.

Old analouge tv, if you had good signal, you had a good picture, bad signal bad/no picture.

New digital formats, you dont get this. It either works or doesnt. So having a cheap cable makes absolutely no difference if its under 5 metres or so.

EG if one bit read 1,0,1,0,1,0,1,0

but the cheap cable degraded this to 0.9,0.1,0.8,0.3,0.9,0.0,0.7.0.1

The tv would know that 0.7 isnt a valid integer, so will simple round it to the nearest integer and read the bit as 10101010, giving the same as the source.

Thats not quite how it works but it shows the principle.

Great explanation, but I'm afraid your not quite correct - a lower performing cable would 1.0,0,0,0,1,0,1,1,1,1,0,1,0,0,0 etc

The incorrect signal would result in a poorer picture as the TV tries to compensate for the incorrect data - if the gap is too great you'll get a pixallated picture or interference in the sound.

Not meaning to be hostile in anyway? The whole point is not about the silly HDMI cable. I know I can buy them cheaper. I notice the fact that everyone seems more focused on this than a £2.2k TV that is not fit for purpose. Have I lost the plot here somewhere??

No you haven't lost the plot - It seems that most a lot of people posting here have nothing better to do than wind people up - Ignore them.
