Evening all, just popping in to hang my head in shame and declare a spendy day - and more than I [STRIKE]expected[/STRIKE] planned :(

Kinda had the day planned out from dropping OH at football at 12, to getting the washing done, shopping and going to the laundrette. Only problem was that found out this morning football didn't KO til 2 which kinda thew things out. Did manage to drop OH off (and get the first wash done first), then rushed off to Mr A as I wanted one of their pre-lit trees for £7 and they were all OOS on the website. Also planned to collect cat litter and food....but then picked up some other 'essentials' and managed to come out £38 lighter :eek: and that was including the free Air Wick candle I collected with a voucher I had. I did manage to get a big tin of Mingles for £5 though - must tuck those away from OH until Xmas, if he gets wind of them he'll get through them in a weekend. I know I spent more than I should have because I was in a rush :(

Anyway, queues were HUGE - what is it about people taking the entire family shopping? Why not leave one adult at home with the kids while the other shops?? surely it would make things a lot less stressful for everyone?
I must admit I was a tad stressed at the checkout - it was like the week before xmas.

Did make it to the laundrette too so everything done but feeling a wee bit stressed atm....must chill.

NSD - target 18 days, so far 5!!
  • Yay, managed one more today so that's 8 up to now. Just come in from a very foggy drive home to find that the fire's lit, tea's brewing and food is in the oven. I'm feeling spoilt and distinctly cheerier than when I left work.
It's so hard at the minute, I manage a shop which relies on discretionary spending (ie non essentials) which as we all know everyone is cutting back on at the minute so it's just so tough. I haven't achieved target in months and although head office seem very understanding it does worry me no end. Hopefully we will get back on track soon.............

Kerri could you perhaps give me some ideas for recipes using lentils/pulses? I never really used to cook but have really been trying hard this year. I'm a bung it all in a pan and let it cook kind of a girl so we have lots of chilli/spag bol etc. Anything that I can sort out in the morning before work and then stick on to reheat when I get home is great. I don't get in until after 7 so can't start cooking at that time! Any suggestions would be appreciated thank you. :)

Glad to hear you are feeling better, it must be tough at work for you arm, as you say, everyone is trying to cut back but strike a balance between budgeting and supporting local businesses. Will the run up to Xmas help at all?

I'll pm you a couple of recipies, I'm a bit new to cooking with lentils/pulses myself but these seem to work ok. A tip I picked up on here too (I think it was from BigMumma) was when cooking something like chilli or spag bog using mince, is to cook some split red lentils too until soft, then mix them in with the mince, making it go further. Don't worry, I'm a chuck it in one pot kinda gal too :)
