I dont make one - I find by the time Ive bought ALL the ingredients (which I dont have in store) its far cheaper to buy one! Honestly! unless you intend to make at least six - its cheaper to buy a ready made one. may not be Old Style - but its Moneysaving!
and its only my DS2 who actually LIKES christmas pud - the others prefer something lighter.0 -
St Delia's recipe is the one for me - and you can get it free on her website. I tried Nigella's pud one year but it wasn't great.0

I am making the delia one today, it is steaming as I type..... fingers crossed as my first year making an xmas pud too.0

For anybody wanting to provide a nice similar sort of - rich tasting but nothing like as heavy - I can highly recommend this alternative:-
Chocolate Beetroot Cake recipe
I do it in a pudding basin and cook it in the microwave. Timing depends on your power, so after 5mins on high - do the "is anything stuck to my stabber?" test, and now keep checking every thirty seconds.
On my 850W microwave it tended to take between 8 and 8½ minutes.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. Delia for me too, and I cook I in the slow cooker.0

Thanks everybody. I'm going to try st. Delia's recipe. The recipe includes 150ml of barley wine - what is that?
Also I'd prefer to "steam" them in my slow cooker can anyone tell me how long I should leave the (1pint) puddings in the slow cooker & should I cook them on high?
Thanks in advance0 -
barley wine is normally found with the speciality beers and ales. I dont think its a wine as such, its more of a beer. Also known to cause the worst hangover you will ever have!0
