As its coming up to easter and I spotted St Clements cake on the shop shelves I had an idea, marmalade cake + lemon icing = St Clements cake  I put half the cake batter in a loaf 'tin' and half as muffins/cupcakes they went down a storm when I met up with mse mummy friends last week :D

I just so happen to have some lovely marmalade which i will make the cake with..nom nom:D Thank you for the idea.

    Hello,

I love the Cheap Family Recipes website - well done everyone!

Tonight I'm planning on making the tomato & olive pudding, but I don't have a slow cooker or a bain-marie, so just wondering how to cook it? Could I put the pudding bowl in a large dish of water and "steam" it in the oven??

you could use a large saucepan and pop the basin in that. If you cover the pudding well with foil, I daresay it would 'steam' pretty well in the oven.

haven't ever tried cooking anything that way myself, would love to know how you get on

Last night the Hairy bikers did jam rolly poly steamed in the oven.
They wrapped in paper & foil then put it on a rack over a roasting tin filled with water

How is everyone been a bit AWOL due to popping in and out to get my car fixed (my mechanic is 30 miles away) it passed its MOT on Fri and promptly broke down yesterday so waiting to hear when mechanic is back and when he can fix it.
On a brighter note i found a recipe on one of the forums for a version of mini cheddars which i tried today and they are very very moreish. Will post a recipe if anyone wants.

Dead easy though its in old money :)

    4oz marg
    4oz flour
4oz grated cheese (the stronger the cheese the more like the original they taste)

Mix all together to a soft dough. Roll out and cut into shapes cook for approx 10 mins in the oven til a light golden colour. Enjoy I dare you to eat only 1. Ex said he could easy eat 12 without thinking:eek:
