oh Lesley, treat treat treat :D

I always ask for M&S vouchers for birthdays etc so i can treat myself to welsh cakes, micro curries and club sandwiches which i can't afford from my budget
The very best is sometimes what nature gives us for free.

then it occurred to me today that I could use them to buy food for February

sooo, do I look for their most frugaltastic basic stuff, knowing that M&S don't really do cheap food and end up paying a lot more than usual for eg carrots and onions but not having to use real money

or do I get some lovely, delicious treaty type food that I wouldn't normally buy

or do I maybe have some friends round and use some of it for party food, again, not stuff I would normally buy

    what would you do?
We usually get M&S vouchers for Christmas from a relative. We tend to go and buy things which are a small step up from the things we would normally buy such as fancy fishcakes, fancy ingredients we wouldn't normally buy (can't think of examples off hand but maybe nice condiments or something) and then spend the rest on stuff like milk and cream.

  • Oooh how lovely Lesley. When I was a nursing student, if we had $5 left at the end of the month ( it was a looooong time ago), we would go to M+S and treat ourselves. One of the best things I found to buy was their condiments, that way I could continue to enjoy that $5 for months to come. Their tartare sauce is to die for :).

You probably are the only person not to have tried them, Shanks - whereas I'm probably the only person that doesn't really like them :D

Sami, I still haven't managed to view that link (been a hectic day), but looking forward to having my chest freezer dilemma solved ;)

Lesley, I'd go for treats !

I haven't tried these hobnobs although I have heard them mentioned on lots of threads - im not really a dessert person tbh.

Just had salmon pasta for tea - Im stuffed and there is loads left that ill end up picking at all night!

Treattreattreat lesley. Buy some yummy things that maybe you can freeze then if you are ever feeling like a week has been too frugal you will have something to treat yourself with :-)

I'm ill with either flu or a very bad cold, luckily Mr arty did a huge batch cook on saturday (not that im up to eating them) and we have some tins of soup as they were on offer in Tesco. However I can imagine times like these would be when Shirls and Kittys would spend more on convenience food. So what do you all do in situations where you just cant cook (i can barley stand at the mo). Do you just always always have a freezer stocked up?

Either freezer meal or OH cooks.

Or when I want chicken chow mein and know that he can't cook a decent one, he buys takeaway.

Yes thats what we are doing Susan (btw I hope you are feeling a little better) I was just wondering what a shirl would do if Bob cant/wont cook. I suppose its one of those things you need a back up plan for.

I'm definitely better than I was in December although I'm not expecting to be up to doing any cooking before August.
