All good here thanks queenofstring, how are things with you? The numbers are greatly reduced in our household. Two oldest went off to uni in Sept and youngest went back to college yesterday :( So now it is just DH, DB and me. I don't know how to cook for smaller numbers :rotfl::rotfl: My pans are too big for a start!

DD came and had dinner (pasta alfredo) last night so today is my first day in a long time cooking for just 3 adults.

Our Christmas is going to be very different as we will all be together from 17th December then we all go to a wedding from 26th-28th. Planning is going to have to be carefully done. We will have to eat out on 26th and possibly 28th!! Not sure how we are going to manage yet.

Just made a blueberry cake using the orange cake recipe, I replaced marmalade with fresh blueb's and added a splash of vanilla to the mix and sprinkled a bit of cinnamon sugar on top before baking - it smells so yum I want to eat it NOW :D

  • I can't find an orange cake recipe
  • Just experimented with the Mushroom Soup.

I followed the recipe for the Stuffed Tortillas, added splosh more cream and some dried parsley, simmered it for about 15 minutes and served it with spaghetti, garlic dough balls and garlic butter. It was delicious.

DH reckons I won't be able to recreate it.

  • In a bid to get back in the CFR spirit we are having the Amatriciana for tea. It smells divine. I like the sound of the mushroom soup MDW.

    Hi Kleopatra,

The orange cake recipe is a recipe that is currently being tested so it is not linked to from the site yet. However, you can find it at http://www.cheap-family-recipes.org.uk/recipe-orangecake.html

Please come back and let us know how you get on :)

    Hope that helps!

having eaten 2 pieces I can say it was lovely :D
I reckon you could easily add up to 100g of fruit if you fancied.
Hubby said it was delicious too.

I had similar difficulty when I first left home as I was used to cooking (and food shopping) for five/six. I just carried on cooking large amounts and cooked less frequently.

Hi nice to see some activity on here. Poohbear great to have you back. I used to have the same trouble cooking for a small amount as i used to cook in a pub so used a min of 10lb mince at a time so when i got 1lb to cook with it was a bit of a shock to see such a tichy amount in the pan. Making a chicken pie tonight if i can work up the motivation to make some pastry. I can make it easily but its one of the things along with a roux that i just cant get around to making but if i dont ex wont have any food and will moan so will try and push myself later on. Just trying to heat up a bit after walking dog in a blizzard not nice
